Did you check and see if it was locked?

Whew! I'm not the only one with this issue! My Supercab has done this every winter since it was new. All you can do is spray a good moly or lithium grease into the latches and give it a solid bang when you close it.

I'd take the cover plate off the tailgate and look at the handle linkages, make sure anything isn't binding up, partially keeping a latch unlocked or something.

Do you have spray in bed liner? I've noticed with spray in, along with rubber tailgate guards at top left and right corners of bed, protrudes farther out than stock, pushing against the tailgate and causing difficult/faulty closure. If so, just remove stock rubber guards and trim off a few millimeters to allow easier closure.

Now THIS is some useful information. I will check this on my truck ASAP.
