Remote Start Alarm Question

I have a 2006 F-150 xlt Supercab. I called my local dealer and asked them how much it would cost to have the ford gold series alarm installed (parts + labor). They quoted me $599.00. Am I crazy or are they trying to rape me. I know the parts should cost me around $300.00 for the system plus securilock but an additional 300 for labor seems a little high. I dont want want to void my warranty either by bringing it to someone else. Has anyone else had the FORD remote start keyless entry and alarm installed, How much did your dealer charge?

They aren't even using any Vaseline.

For that kind of money I'd get a better starter and alarm from a third party. (Actually, I did.) It won't void your warranty.

With each day that goes by I become a more firm believer at getting nothing extra done at a dealer.

My mother-in-law just got a remote starter put on by her dealer on her new Toyota and now it doesn't even work.

Do it right the first time. Take it to an expert.

If you are able/willing to put one in yourself, give Travis over at www.kcautosound.com a call/email, he'll hook you up with something nice! I put in a CA680 i bought from him prewired, and he gives you all the instructions with great pics on which wires to splice into and where they are located.

Trust me you'll be happy you did!

I 2nd that. Travis is also the Lead Installer for the Ford Accessory Division in Kansas City. He's the guy that installs the Ford systems for the dealers. I believe he told me that he charges the dealer $325.00 for the Ford Gold. Lets ya know how much the dealer marks up. I have bought several systems from KC Autosound to install for myself, family, buddies. Quite a bit of stereo stuff and even my TV for the house. He can get anything for ya and really cares about his customers.

Seems steep, I got a remote start/paging alarm system for $350. I also had a problem with the install the first time around but the shop took care of it. The Ford dealership has said nothing about my alarm, heck, the dealership had an after market one in the truck when I bought it.

i work at a stereo shop, we do alot of remote starts for actual dealerships. My 04 came with an audiovox keyless and a crappy alarm, i replaced it with an audiovox 9801 paging system that has remote start and security system. we sell them for 399, althought i got mine for $150

whatever you do dont get a bulldog remote start, seen alot of them melted lol
