painting chrome bumpers

painting chrome bumpers

well my truck came with front and rear chrome bumpers but i wanna do the blacked out look since the rest of my truck is black ,what do u guys think would be the cheapest route to do this,get new bumpers and paint them or jsut get the chrome ones i have painted? ,thanks

I've seen people trade their chrome bumpers for painted ones. I think the primed bumpers are fairly cheap then have them paint to matched. The chrome removal is expensive I believe.

You can paint over the chrome. Use a good degreaser to clean ‘em up. And then use some adhesion promoter I would recommend Bull Dog brand that’s really good stuff. And then just prime base & clear right over that. It will be very durable. No problem, and it would be a whole lot cheaper than buying new bumpers also. But look around I’m sure some one would be willing to trade there factory work truck bumpers for ya chrome ones..

hes is right. look around, many trades have been done for chrome to painted.

da the hell out of the crome with 80-100 grit and use an etch primer really tho I would let a profesional body shop do it, I did mine as a quick fix to last about 3 months

I just painted the F150 chrome emblems and ford ovals. No more chrome here either. Maybe some guys that do body work would know if paint would be ok over that much chrome..
