Exclamation How to REMOVE/INSTALL Oval on Tailgate?

So I got a new Ford Racing billet oval for my tailgate, and I just removed that top skinny part on the back of the tailgate that allows you access to the inside (sort of). I can tell that I clearly need to go in more to get this job done, but really have no idea how or where.

anyone have any tips? Pics?

HELP!

Question

Ok...after looking more closely, I am pretty sure it can NOT be taken apart. I do not think post manufacturing there is any way to access the lower portion of the new tailgate.

SO....I am thinking that MAYBE the stock oval is attached with double sided tape only? Does anyone know?

*After plenty of searching I think I confirmed that it is attached with tape/glue. Now I need to go buy some new tape for my new oval- d'oh!

99.9% sure that it's taped with alignment holes -- like pat suggested.

I use clear 100% silicone caulking to fasten things like that. Learned it from a
buddy who had a body shop. Works great.

In the post I've read, everyone said to use fishing string to remove it.

Awesome, thanks guys!

so bust out the hair dryer and fishing line eh?

That will wait for tomorrow. I'll go grab another roll of 2x sided tape and some caulking to seal the edges as well.

If you are lucky, I'll even post pics! haha

It is a total PIA to get off. You will think its bolted on but its just tape. With it being recessed it is extremely difficult to get the fishing line under it to cut the tape, but be persistent and it will come off....eventually.

I used a 1 inch plastice drywall spreader and wrapped the end with duct tape to be extra sure of no scratches, after I got enough pried up I could get my finger under it and pulled it the rest of the way off.

I think that the caulking seal is a bit extreme as its just an emblem, no forces pushing against it but to each his own.
