6 speed Tranny...
6 speed Tranny...
Just saw the Lincoln Navigator commercial and heard they have a 6 speed tranny with the 5.4L... Any news on whether the F150 will be getting that same tranny.

Hmmmm, the 07' Expedition & Navigator, which is built on the same platform as the current F150 has the new 6-speed automatic, so I can't see why Ford would go with a 5-speed auto, unless like mentioned above, there is some sort for towing limitation to it?

The main reasoning - cost. The 6 speed in the Expedition/Navigator is made by ZF and is very (comparatively speaking) expensive.
Not sure if this ties to our trucks or not. But in one of the automotive industry publications I read. There was a story about a joint venture between GM and Ford on the development of a 6 speed auto. GM will be releasing their new GMT900 (Silverado/Sierra) with a 6 speed sometime in 07, I believe. I would guess that Ford will be doing something similar with our trucks some time later.
Automotive News or Wards Automotive I believe is the source for this. Hopefully I'm remembering the details correctly.
