The cab looks in good shape. Meaning, the dash doesn't look too protruded into the driver's seat.
I wonder more about the details. As in how fast were they going? Also, what do you mean by crossover crash? Was someone trying to turn left and the other one just hit them head on?
Thoughts and prayers with their families, that's really too bad.

The guy I work with drove through the traffic backup caused by that wreck. It was raining something fierce and pitch black outside, plus the design of that particular stretch of road is from what my coworker said an accident waiting to happen. Bummer.

Wow... looks like a horrific accident.

Judging from the pic, extrication would have to have been used to get the people out. There is too much damage to the front of the vehicle to get the driver's side door open with some spreaders. You can also see where they cut off the roof from the stub left on the both the A and B pillars.
There doesnt seem to be too much damage to the passenger comapartment, however, we cant get a good look at the dash or the windsheild which was removed. Depending on whether or not seatbelts were worn, the driver might have struck the steering wheel and/or the windsield, which is often fatal.
Also, even though the interior appears to be in great shape given the circumstances, it doesnt take a lot of kinetic energy to shear the aorta from deceleration forces (read: a really big artery busts open.)
There are three impacts during a motor-vehicle accicent:
1. The vehicle strikes and object.
2. The passenger(s) strike the vehicle, be it the airbag, steering wheel, seatbelt, etc.
3. The organs inside strike the body cavity.
This might be too much info, but there seemed to a lot of speculation on the nature of the accident. This info comes from personal expeirence. Thats how I got the "911" in the name.
With any luck this will make people take notice to their driving habits and be more aware of driving conditions.

We should link this thread in with the 'I got a ticket for 105 in a 45 zone' threads.
