I'm not aware of any changes, but the silent majority are not having problems with spark plugs.

No.

2004-2005 ONLY. This has been discussed before. Anti-sieze is now applied to the ground shield on 2006-2007 preventing the issue.

FYI: The TSB does not apply to the 2006-2007.

The silent majority is waiting till 100,000 miles as the manual advises, will deal with the problem then. Most of the silent majority do not even know the problem exists.

thats exactly right

I went to the dealer today and asked them to change my plugs before my 36k mile warranty (I'm at 35.3 now). The guy asked why and I told him so if they brake it's still their fault and not mine, he acted like he had never heard of plugs braking before. He pulled up the price to a solid $490 so I told him to forget about it. 100k miles here I come! (and by that I mean this thing will be sold way sooner than that )

Me too!! This truck probably won't even see 50,000 miles while I am the owner. So it will be someone elses problem.

I had mine changed at about 20,000 miles on a spark knock tsb. They came out without a hitch, I looked at them. My bud works at the dealership I take my truck to, and I went to his bay and I asked to see the plugs. None of them showed the "rust" and he said they came right out. The plugs that are breaking off have a buildup of some sort on them due to driving style. I drive 90% highway miles, I guess that makes them less prone to the buildup.

I drive 90% highway as well. I had 3 of 8 break off by the dealer. 06-07 not included in tsb because of the antiseize? I'm not sure if this is the "fix" yet, because it's too soon for the 06-07 to be changing their plugs. It's obvious Fomoco isn't going to announce the problem's solved, when they're not even acknowledging they have a problem. It's the commoner that brought this issue to light, and this forum.

screwchris, i was wondering why you think your dealer should warranty a maint. item? espcially when that maint. isn't due.

That's not exactly right.

We just did a survey recently on spark plug disasters, and 5 didn't have a problem, and 2 did have a problem. One of the two that had a problem broke the plug himself. He said he followed the TSB, but you will never know. The message boards bring out problems and a couple posts can make a problem seem worse than it acutally is. For every person that has a problem with a spark plug, there are thousands of others that don't and never will.

bwill11 - That was a small discussion that I had with the service manager and his supervisor.

What we came up with was what I had originally thought:

Me paying for them to change plugs while truck is still under warranty = if they break the dealer pays to fix the motor

If I take it to the dealer out of warranty to change the plugs and one breaks = I'm screwed

Rocky85 - On the same note, I don't think your survey of 7 people represents the 1000+? (I dont know) members on here. I do know everytime I come to read there are at least 200 people viewing. A good point that Bluejay brought up after your point about the silient majority is that many people have not tried to take their plugs out yet. In any case, I have read more than a few bad stories about spark plugs. The service advisor told me it's like a 1 in a 100 thing. Ultimately, I am taking a chance and not changing them. Hopefully they do come out if and when I still have the truck when it needs to be done.
