Edge Ordered...What to do first?

Alright, I ordered my edge programmer, and it should be here Monday or Tuesday at the latest. I already got the primer, sandpaper, and paint to match the pod to the dash. But should I download the updates before installing and running? I saw on Edge that if you get a Edge with a date of 2007 on it they have a update for it. But what if it's not that date?

I would update it. Some of the updates are to add features and others fix problems that have cropped up. I don't run the beta stuff cause I don't want to be a guinea pig. Go with the release versions of the firmware and calibrations.

Yeah its not exactly the easiest thing to update the edge. I swear you have to some kind of computer expert to find out how to make the program work. I just called edge and they walked me through it, now its set to wher it automatically updates when the evolution is connected through a USB port. The lightning software really blows.

Oh great, something else that's a pain in the @$$ to work with. LOL. Well they said taking the intake muffler/core out was going to be hard but that went pretty easy, so maybe I can figure it out.

You have a 2005 truck and your Edge is recently manufactured. I would not update it. I have not updated mine since I installed it in July and have not had any problems at all. I would only update if a programming change would affect my truck.

What is the latest version of the firmware and calibration? I haven't updated mine in about a year and am having problems getting the software to work.

You might need to update the Lightning software.....I recently tried to update my edge, and after a couple of hours messing with it, I dsecided to download the latest lightning software and see if that made a difference, well it was a completely different look than what I had before, and the downloads to the edge worked much better.

What about a newly ordered Edge for my '06? I'm only planning to set it at level 3 and leave it alone until I get 34" tires, then only adjusting the tire size setting. Do you think I need to update it? I don't want to screw things up by updating it like others seem to have.

I would update it. There were several updates for the 06 calibrations some of which addressed corruption. Just to be safe I would get the latest versions but not the beta stuff. Mine works fine on my 06 screw 5.4L3v. I run level 2 all the time.

I would check the date your Edge was manufactured, and then check the site for updateds after that date that would possibly affect your 2006. If there are some that seem applicable, I would update, otherwisw I would plug it in and go with what they sent. I do not believe in updating just to have the latest, because most of th lastest does not apply to me. Hope that makes sense, sometimes what I type does not sound like what I am trying to say.
