Amp overheating

I upgraded my sound system and the guy mounted my amp under my front passenger seat. After it runs for around 30 minutes, it shuts off for a few seconds and comes back on. I was told it may be getting too hot and should move it behind the rear seat. i can feel it getting very hot under the seat. Will moving it behind the seat help???

it wont help, it will get worse because of less air circulation, either the amp is tuned to its max or the speaker are to much for that amp, what kind of amp is it anyway and what subs you got?

I think it is a punch amp and I only have 2 6 inch subs in a box. Will turning the output down help?

Something is definitely not right. I have a 4 channel Alpine behind the rear seat with no problems. It's either too much speaker for the amp, bad grounding or the levels are too high.

Could be a few things.

1) Power wire is too small. What gauge wire is used?
2) Amp if being pushed too hard. Back the gains off 20% and see if that helps.
3) The amp speakers have a lower impedence than the amp can handle. Is the amp bridged? Running one sub off of each channel?
