well, look at it this way:
1) Say you lease a truck for 2 year for 15,000 miles for a total cost of 12,500. So to drive a truck for 5 years you pay 31,250 assuming your lease is 6,250 per year.

OR

2) You can buy a fully loaded '06 F150 4x4 scab with a sticker 41K for 32K out the door including extended war. and free oil changes and pay 533 a month with 0% for 5 years and sell the truck for say 10K in 5 years and I can drive as many miles as I want

But I dirve 11k miles a year, pay 4440 a year for my lease, so 22k over a 5 year period. So assume I buy the truck that you were talking about, spend 32k on it over the 5 year period assuming that I want to keep the same truck for 5 years and can qualify for 0% financing, and I could sell it for 10k after 5 years then I would break dead even on the truck that I bougth as compared to the leased truck I get every 2 years. It can go either way depending on your situation and how the market ends up treating these trucks for resale.

Please tell me I misread something. Some people are leasing these trucks for 5 or 6 years? WTF?

Yeah you misread, its an assumption of if someone leases a truck every 2 years, and comparing that to buying a truck and financing it for 5 or 6 years. Im not sure if anyone in their right mind would lease for 5 or 6 years, unless it was a really good deal.

Why don't you buy the 5 year old truck for $10,000 then drive it for 5 years and sell it for $5,000. Repeat as many times as necessary and save yourself some serious $$$$.
