Diesel like ticking...

I was idling and wasting time this afternoon with a buddy of mine and my truck was ticking like usual. He said "man what is that tick?" This truck has done the tick since the day I've had it but i just always thought it was the way the engine ran. So we popped the hood. It sounds like a diesel...not as loud though. It seems to be coming from below and to the left of the air filter. As you increase rpms the tick increases is repitition. Injectors maybe? What do you guys think?

I think I'm going to schedule an appointment on Tuesday at the local dealership to take it in to be looked at. I will try to locate the TSB on here and have it in hand incase they try to give me some crap. Any suggestions on anything else to check out or do at the dealership?

BTW, 2005 f150 xlt 5.4L 4x4 Scab 19,700 easy miles. Recently serviced

Maybe cam phasers?! Mine only does when the engine is hot.It also seems like the 5.4 in general is a little noisy. This is the only gas engine that Ive had that when on cold startup it doesnt knock. (Nissan Chevy)

I can't count the times people have asked me If my truck is a disel because of the sound it makes. Every 04+ f-150 with the 5.4 engine I've seen makes that ticking sound so im not worried about it.

I'm not worried about it, every 3V 5.4 seems to do it.

so if its the cam phasers, you guys are saying there is no need to take it in?

If they did replace the cam phasers, the ticking should cease right?

It sounds like it is the phasers. It is a warranty repair and Ford now has a special tool to hold the cam chains tight when removing the gear. That way all they have to remove is the valve cover and not the whole front cover. I had mine done on both sides and now the idle is dead quiet. I would take it in if I were you.

Update...

Just got off the phone with ford dealership. An appointment is scheduled for Tuesday morning. I'm going to address the ticking issue as well as another issue.

When i switch air flow with my a/c there is a noise like something is flapping. The service advisor told me that it sounded like a blend door which takes 8+ hrs to replace on top of the possible engine issue.

Since i didn't buy my truck at this dealership they will not give me a rental at their expense but i did purchase the extended warrantly and i vaguely remember reading something about a rental reimbursement in there so i'll do some research.
