The 11th position of the VIN indicates the Assembly Plant.
The last six positions, (12-17) are the sequence number.
The first unit off the line is sequence number A00001.
After 99,999 units are built, the 100,000th unit has sequence number B00000
If a given plant built 300,000 trucks,
'A' would be an early build
'B' trucks would be mid-year builds
'C' would be late year builds.
This is helpful when Ford institutes a 'mid-year' model change.
If some 'B' trucks did not get the modification then you know by default that :
None of the A trucks got it.
and
All of the C trucks got it.
