Blown Coilovers

Yeah so as the title says I blew my drivers coilover allready!!. I was rotating my tires this morning and saw some wet on my LCA and just though o well it was bound to happen I mean a riped CV boot. I take a closer look and there is a stream of oil running down the shock and just a mess. I only had them like 3 weeks I expected a lot more from a 600$ shock. So my question is I dont want to go with Donahoe again because they were allright but I have emailed them 3 times with questions never to get a response. Also as you might remember I went to the dunes and really heated them up and I think I need a reservior. Both king and sway a way have reservoirs but which one is the better shock I am leaning towards the sway a way because they are only 850 and the kings are 1400. Do you think the sway a ways are nice shocks or do I just need the kings to be happy? Also will I notice a ride difference between a regular shock and a digressive piston shock. That was donahoes main selling point, that they have it and no one else does. they claim to have the best ride, do you think I would notice a difference with a nondigressive piston shock. I really want the sway a way's because of the price but if they are a cheap shock Ill just get the kings but I would like to save that money if the SAW's are good shocks too.

Holy smokes man. I recall you wearing out balljoints with an AS on, now you blow coilovers? That truck must take a beating.

That is freakin' nuts. We blew up a shock on our 4runner because they were bottoming out on the shock bodies. But I don't think that you would have that problem with a set of shocks that are made for your truck.

Lance King used to work for Kuster shocks and he designed the Kusters which were later bought out by Sway Away. When Sway Away bought Kuster he started King.
Sway Away and King basicly differ in how the top ends mount, King threads inside the tube Sway Away threads on the outside the body. This makes the King mounting a little longer overall for the same amout of shock travel. I'll post some pics of the two. Either way there both good shocks.

PM me about your Donahoe's and post some pics of them and the leak.

I was going to get some pics when I got home from work yesterday but ended up going to the auto show. Ill get pics soon. I was getting air in my truck at the dunes but I would think that they would hold up to that. I am thinking it is more a defect then me beating them too hard. I work hard so i have to play harder. I wish I was able to go to the dunes this weekend. My dad and his race team had an all weekend race so I had to stay in town to run the company and its a good thing I did. friday and saturday alone was 35 hours 15 friday and a 20 hour shift saturday. Does anyone know about the digressive piston thing? Does SAW use good quality parts in side their shock like wearbands and seals or are they cheaper because they use cheap parts? Any company can get them for you for about 850 to 900 just bargin with them there is such a markup on all this offroad crap. Also when I say blown I mean a seal not the shock body.

A digressive style piston produces a very rapid rate of damping force increase at lower speeds without making the ride harsh and produces a relatively low rate of change damping force at higher speeds.

SAW uses good quality parts inside and outside their shock like wearbands, seals, aluminum, bearings and plating etc. They are also a much larger Corporation than King and thus a better buying power makes
a lower price to the consumer.

So I called and all I can get is warrenty I wanted to just return them and go with the sway a ways but he said all he can do is get me a new one I cant return them and go with a different brand. dang I really need a reservoir. Anyone looking for coilover do your self a favor and get Kings or SAWs if you are hardcore. I dont know why donahoe doesnt have a reservoir when you have this heavy of a truck riding on them.
