Tailgate fell off!

About a week or two after I put the hose clamp on my '04, I was on my way to work and I noticed that my soft bed cover seemed awfully loose. When I go to work I noticed that somebody had unlatched the back of the bed cover and there were hand prints all over my tailgate, especially all along the bottom. Somebody had tried to steal my tailgate that night/morning right in front of my house. That cheap little hose clamp saved me the price of a new tailgate.

If it is a dog, all I have to say is put the poor thing inside the cab where it is warm. How could you leave it out in the cold while your A$$ is all warm and toasty. That is so cruel.
(ifs its a dog)

Yep, installing a hose clamp around the right hinge will do it. If you bought 1 or 2 of those tailgate assist deals that are on e-bay, that will hold the tailgate down and won't let it bounce around.

Dogs in the wild don't sit in the back of a steel box, with no shelter, and wind chills down below -100 F.
And house dogs don't develop the thick fur of outside dogs.
You can kill a house pet, even a big breed in about an hour of freeway cruise speed in freezing weather.
Even worse, we import breeds of dog, short hairs, to super cold climates.
They have little more protection than a human. Strap a human in the bed of the truck and go cruising in the snow, see how he does.
Idiot tourists kill their pets all the time in cold country.
They kill them where I live because dogs also ain't equipped to take 120-130 degrees in direct sunlight.
Sure if the dog is loose, used to living in a cold or hot climate, and can seek shelter they do pretty well. But tied up in a bed? Not so good.
taterthedog, that’s a great looking moose. I miss hunting, but I never took down anything that big. Great place to live from the looks of it.

Its very much a pain in the butt to get your tailgate back on when you cant get in in the right position due to your quad being in the way. I fussed with it for over half an hour in -30 degree weather before I got it back on. From now on I won't let it bounce around back there, I'll strap it down.
