When Water Comes Out Tailpipe....

What does it mean when water comes out your tailpipe? Ive always heard that it still means that your motor is still "tight" on the inside. Is this true or is just a myth?

no....tail pipe is cold and when the engine is warm it throws out the water due to temp changes...engine is warm before the tail pipe is warm...so answer to question is no...

however....if the weather is cold enough ...say 10 below....water, steam, may most likely come out all the time

Water is an end-product of COMBUSTION -- hence, your engine.

I think it is mostly condensation. Are you talking startup or like there is always water coming out?

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/catalytic-converter.htm

The main emissions of a car engine are:

Nitrogen gas (N2) - Air is 78-percent nitrogen gas, and most of this passes right through the car engine.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) - This is one product of combustion. The carbon in the fuel bonds with the oxygen in the air.
Water vapor (H2O) - This is another product of combustion. The hydrogen in the fuel bonds with the oxygen in the air.

nanners for science!

It means the catalytic converters are doing their job.

Exclamation Cloud of steam out the tailpipe

2001 F 150 4.6L V8 5 speed XLT 4x4....Getting onto freeway Monday. Small power decline followed by a cloud of white smoke/steam. Smelled like steam when I pulled off. No engine light or anything. Nothing going on in engine compartment. Started it back up, small bit of steam from tailpipes, no engine problems that I could see. Took it to the mechanic who looked for a cylinder head gasket as well as intake malfunction. Found nothing. He is stumped. How easy is it to miss something like that? I need the truck for the weekend's camping trip, but I don't want to burn out a bearing or something. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks mucho!

NO! This kind of misinformation makes me so mad.

It's without a doubt that someone switched his stainless square muffler bearings for a steel traingular muffler bearing. . oldest trick in the book!
