Don't break your rear window
Broke the right side piece of glass on my rear sliding window on Saturday. Wasn't very happy but, I was even worse when I called around for prices. Ford must have made the window out of gold or platinum. I called my dealer and they wanted $800 for just the window. Called a few other auto glass companies and the prices ranged from $675-$850 installed with OEM window. I found a company that had an after market one for $400 installed. Moral of the story is............
........... Start manufacturing windows for Ford................. |
check ebay.

Call your insurance company. Around here, insurance companies HAVE TO cover glass. It is under the comprehensive coverage.
I broke the windshield on my last truck while trying to replace the chrome trim. I paid a $100.00 deductible and the insurance company paid the rest, no questions asked. The glass company sent a guy out with a van and he replaced the windshield right in my driveway. Definitely worth a phone call. |
I think I'm going to lower my deductible. Right now it's set at $1000 about $200 more than the window.

That's absurd! |
Hey, there is like a 300% mark up on glass. Call a glass company and if your lucky someone will cut you a deal for the actual price.
|
jeez $1000 deductable???? trying to get that cheap insurance huh? I'd go at least $500 maybe lower if your a clutz

i am a glass tech by trade and have a glass shop out of a collsion center. i have replaced several of those b/g in the last 6 months. you are correct when you said they are expensive. wholesale cost for the reg slider is a tad over $500 and the power slider is $10 more than that. the aftermarket sliders are ok, but i like oem parts for quality, fit and finish.

I would call the insurance company as well. I broke the windshield on my 04 and in Jersey, Glass coverage is not mandatory. You have to pay extra for it, which of course I didn't. Anyway, I called the glass company first for a price, then called the insurance company and they told me to call the company back, tell them who my insurance was with and that I didn't have glass coverage. They took $100 off the price because I dod NOT have glass coverage. It may be worth a shot..

You will, however, incur a comprehensive claim if you get it replaced. While it won't cost you anything out of pocket on the spot, it will hurt you further down the road if you go to change insurance companies as you'll show a comprehensive claim -- trust me here. I learned this the hard way and, as a result, withheld changing companies for two years to allow it to 'fall off' my record. RP :D |
In Florida only the front windshield is covered by state law. Must be replaced with no deductible.
Word of warning: It will strike against you when an insurance company reviews you. |
