New Info on the '08 F-150

Ford Says It's Ready for Truck Fight

Even With Older F-150, Ford Says It's Ready to Take on Truck Competition

From Ford's perspective, the competitors' trucks are just now catching up to the F-150, and the company plans to tweak its flagship vehicle by adding features between now and 2008, when a new version comes out.

"They'll catch up to where I am if I stand still, but we're not going to stand still," said Pete Reyes, chief engineer of the redesigned F-Series Super Duty trucks that debut early next year. The heavier-duty work trucks account for 40 percent of F-Series sales.

Ford also will advertise the F-series heavily at NASCAR and other sporting events.

"We will defend our leadership as we have for 29 years," said Ben Poore, Ford truck marketing manager.

Although they won't talk much about the new F-150, Ford officials say it will take cues from the new Super Duty trucks, with a larger grille and more aggressive look. The Super Duty has a new clean-burning and quiet diesel engine, but Ford officials won't say if the F-150 will get a similar powerplant.

Not quite. Ford has been the leader for 29 years, still is, and still will be for years to come because they are practicing CANI - constant and neverending improvement.

Uggg, the heavier duty trucks don't look as nice as the F150s.

Actually, this year will make it a total of 30 years in the number 1 spot. That's THIRTY YEARS!!! That's probably longer than you've been on this earth.

*** whipped? Uhm, not in this dimension!

Well Ford has two of the new Super Dutys at the big annual new car show here now. I was down there last night and if this is any indication...its a hit! The new F450 is bad **** looking in person and the crowd around it all evening is probably a good indication of how it will sell. I heard not one negative comment about it. Just FYI...

I love my Ford, and think it's a mighty fine truck. But why do they always fall back on "best selling" to try to prove it's the best. McDonalds sells more hamburgers than anyone else. Do you think they are the best burgers? I doubt it. I wish they would focus on quality and durability, not quantity.

I totally agree. Just cuz Ford sells, doesnt mean their the best. Just means the most loved and liked. Just like the '03-'04 Cobras. They are some of the fastest machines out there, but the interiors and clunky shifts suck. But that doesnt stop them from selling. So people dont always buy the "BEST".
Still though, I cant wait to see how these NEW trucks are gonna be. Hopefully they will address the quickness issue(as much as you can for such a heavy truck).

I would love the new truck to be quiet, like the '97 model. The '04's have more rattles than a can of nails, and the engine whines more than a jet engine. Literally, the engine noise drives me insane, pun intended.

One of my fav things about this '04 model truck is the EATC system. It's something I hardly ever think about, but when I do, or when I'm in someone else's vehicle, I'm always thinking, "Damn, the EATC in my 150 is the best thing in the world. I haven't touched a climate control since I bought it on Day 1!"

I can't ever find that type of option when "building" other cars and trucks, and I would hate to do without it. And now that Ford finally has NAV in the 150, I'm sure the '09 will have all the toys to make me happy!

I cannot wait until the '09's come out! Time to trade in this noisy '04 already!I'm sure Ford won't let us down. Because when Ford builds the new F-150, there are promises to keep. Only one truck, has earned the right.

Ford isn't the only one that needs to step up. I can't believe Toyota is gonna have more horse power the Hemi next year. A stock Toyota Tundra with 350HP, come on it’s a Toyota for pete sake. That’s just not right..I'm steel keepin' my FORD tho.. And I personally don't care to much for the new 350s but I guess it's one of those things that have to grow on ya.. And my other opinion...Chevy blew it!!!!
