New guy with yet another lift question!

New F-150 owner. Traded my Ram about two weeks ago. Good trade! I've read a ton here and have learned a lot. Good forum!

My truck: 2006 XLT, 4x4, 5.4, AT, 3.73, 150"WB, 17x7.5 wheels (ugly). We camp A LOT with our 5000lb. (loaded weight) Travel Trailer & 200-300lbs gear in bed.

My question: I would like a 6" lift 35's and cool wheels, but big mortgage, kids with braces, new truck payment, etc. prevents this for the time being. But, I can afford rims and tires and a leveling spacer. As you see in the pic we off-road. Nothing major, but there were a few trails we had turn back from due to clearance issues. I'll eventually put on a proper lift, but for now it's gotta be a spacer.

I would like to put a 2.5" front spacer and 1.5" add-a-leaf in the rear. What (if any) wheel specs would allow BFG (315's) 35's (MT or AT)? I'd like that little extra clearance 35's give over 33's, but I don't want any rubbing in normal driving and minimal rubbing when articulated on the trail. Many, many thanks!

You would be fine with the OEM wheels and 315 BFG AT's , but when you get into custom wheels I get lost with all the back spacing? If I remember right a few guys are running the setup you want. Good luck and enjoy!!

Thanks Nebraska,

My (ugly) OEM wheels are 7.5 which the tire makers say are too narrow for 315's. I'm lost on the back spacing, too .

As a general rule, with a leveling kit you can fit 35's on the OEM wheels or 33's on aftermarket wheels. Most wheel manufacturers recommend an 8 to 10 inch wide wheel for 315mm wide (12.50 inch wide) tires, but several members here and at FTW have run them on OEM wheels for thousands of miles with no problems. Also, the backspacing on your OEM wheels is 5.5 inches. You will want to stay with that when you buy aftermarket wheels.

I was in the same delema as you not long ago. I went with the AS 2.5" level kit and a 1.5" Skyjacker rear add a leaf. Tires are the new BFG 285/65/20 (34.5"x 11") on 20x9 rims with 6" backspace. I have no clearance issues at all even on rough terrain. If you stay with a 9" wide rim or less and 5.5" or more of backspace you should be okay.

Thanks wandell! I'll stay with 5.5 backspacing. I'm kinda thinking 17x9 or 18x9, will it make a difference?

Dog'em, nice looking truck. You said what I wanted to hear. The 315/70/17 is about an inch wider than your 285/65/20. Should I factor that in?

I know all you guys have been answering these types of questions for a long time. I really appreciate your responses, and your patience!

One of the few bands whose music sounds as good live as produced. We've always seen them here in So Cal, but since they got back together we've been driving up to Vegas to see them there, too. Come on next summer!

That monster truck of yours adds a new meaning to "And the men who hold high places..." Heh-heh. Sorry, couldn't "Resist"! Ah, crap, did it again... Could do that all night.

allrsdup, that picture makes us realize just how big that Rize 8" lift is. I love it, just wish I could afford one but with a baby on the way and all, I cannot afford to play. Maybe one day... who knows? Rush rocks!
