I have had this problem off and on since I bought my truck in November '03. To save yourself some grief, they don't know what it is. They won't be able to fix it. Try and ignore it. All they'll do is take stuff apart and still not be able to fix it and then break something else. It will go away eventually. But then just when you least expect it, it will come back for a little while. I usually noticed it when it was very cold outside. Do a search of some old threads. I have had a few on it over the past few years. One of the threads had a suggestion from someone about greasing a bushing you can get to by lying on the floor and looking up under the steering column. I haven't done that yet because it had gone away for a while. They replaced my steering column, put my steering wheel back on slightly crooked, and now a clock spring makes a noise when I turn it. But I say just deal with it while it's happening. It will go away for long periods of time. Just give it a little while.

Trust me, I know. I've been there. It p'd me off for a long time. But in the end when they couldn't fix it, all I ended up doing was wasting a lot of my time and getting my truck ripped apart. It will go away. The amount of time it rubs is far less than the amount of time it doesn't rub. Mine would usually last about 2 weeks or so and then go away. And like I said, mainly when it's cold. Mine hasn't rubbed since March. I say give it a month. Then if it's still doing it, take it in for them to look at. Maybe they came up with a fix since mine? I would try that bushing lube in one of the previous threads. The only reason I didn't try that was because mine had stopped.

There was a TSB posted some time ago for this same problem in another Ford vehicle. It involved changing the fluid and using a limited slip additive to run through the system and then putting in fresh fluid. Quintin may be able to provide more details.
