Arrow Has anyone had their windshield leak: Part 3

Alright, the Ford dealer called me back to tell me the "Leak Dr." was there to fix my leaking windshield. So this guy takes the truck to a different building for about thirty minutes, and when he comes back he tells me to test drive it. I take her for a quick jaunt, and guess what; leak not fixed. I tell the guy it's still leaking so he takes it again and comes back about 45 minutes later. Same thing. He tells me that there was almost no sealer on the entire bottom edge of the windshield. He injected some type of black windshield sealer under the rubber seal. It is a little better, but not like it should be. I believe they are going to remove the windshield next, and start from scratch. I'm waiting for the service manager to call me back to tell me when to drop her off. I thought at first they were going to hard to deal with, but they are being very cooperative. This makes me feel much better. The design of the seal is bad. There needs to be a seal covering the edge of the glass and the top edge of the channel. Dang engineers. To be Continued...

Dash would NEVER be removed to reseal a shield... period...
All dealer contract out the glass work.. at lease around here..

top and sides can in most case be resealed from inside by removing trim, "A" pillows molding, sun visors and visor clips, center overhead console and lower head liner down a little to get a caulking gun in there...

The bottom is a horse of another color, that will mostly require removing windshield ( and replacing because there is a slim to none chance in saving it on these trucks...) also if they do "save it" check it good for scratches from the cut out tools...
and make sure the top molding on the shield hasn't been replaced with a universal molding like 100B or 101B, I use these molding on a lot of car and trucks... At customer request to save them from buying a new shield just fo a molding that can't be bought...

I myself would not except universal molding on a warranty job ( i'm a picky SOB) and you can't just buy the molding from Ford, it comes on the shield... hice, new shield if molding is damaged.....

Alot of dealers use some jackleg in a van or truck that has Glass on the door..
because they want you there with a hours notice to fix something and a big company may be two or three days before they get there... like us, we stay booked 3-5 days... always.....

As I stated in your other post for kd4crs ..... if the bottom isn't sealed, its only one way to fix it..... "pull it out" and urethaning the cowl rubber to the glass.... I would beat that "leak Dr." with a stick and run him away from my truck, it a worthless and only a rookie would even try it...
I've been installing autoglass for 24 years....

Yeah, I didn't think it would work either. I will make them remove it on the next visit.

Just curious how you came to realize the windshield was leaking - I have just recently - of course just out of warranty - that I am finding the passenger front carpet damp, when I remove my Catch-All Xtreme mats - Plastic mats...

Any info from you or Duke would be greatly appreciated and also what I might expect to pay to have a reputable glass guy pull it and fix it right - If it is the problem to begin with.

Thanks

R&R (remove & reinstall) can vary greatly, we would charge $125.00.. also price a new shield installed as NO glass Co. on this planet is responsible for your glass breaking on a R&R..
A DW1529 (part number for you shield) will be a slim chance of saving...
as I always tell customers "if you are not prepared to buy a new shield, don't let anybody touch it.."

BTW: your leak can also be the heater box drain clogged... it will fill with water if the drain is clogged and will leak to the pas floor, fire wall aera....this is the drain that condensation from the A/C drain from also....

Thanks for the reply F150T! Where could I find the heater box drain? The sounds like a great first place to check!
