If your looking for a 2wd then the 4.6 is fine.I have an 04 4.6 supercab 3.55ls,superchips tuner,K+N filter, flowmaster 50 series muffler on and my truck is fast. It's 2wd.I wouldn't get a 4.6 in any 4wd setup it is underpowered. My 4.6 will blow the doors off any 5.4 4wd anyday even with 3.55's in the rear.Any takers??

So Im wondering what it takes to get a 4.6 to run even with an equally equipped 5.4 model. I know of someone with a 4.6 that has just a tune and an intake and runs just a little ahead of a 3v 5.4 untill about 85. Are these pretty typical results with these mods, or is he just doing exceptionally well?

Id like to have a mid 14 second truck with mainly bolts ons, which seems quite reasonable with a 5.4 considering some of the times Ive been seeing around here, but is that possible with a 4.6?

THANK YOU

Yes Ford does make a REG CAB 2WD 5.4 truck

I stood behind my bolt-on 4.6 2v for the longest time, always backing it up saying its better than a 5.4 3v... Now i laugh in my own face that i own the 5.4 3v in a heavier package and its just as fast than my bolt-on 4.6 2v...

Fact: The 4.6 2v (w/ truck intake manifold) doesn't make **** for power at high RPMs. But they are PI heads.

I know, they are just darn near impossible to find

Anthony, thats kind of how I am now. I love my lil 4.6 and stand up for it (not saying its better neccesarily (sp?) ) but then I drive/rid in a 5.4 equipped truck and its just as fast or faster. Nice...yet its cool to have a little engine that can somewhat hang with them...

I spose Id always be wishing I would have gotten the 5.4 and had that much more power if I go with the 4.6. If I was racing someone and just barely got beaten I would be kicking myself for not getting the 5.4 probably....Hmmmmm

well that seals it for me. Im gonna order an Xl 5.4 if i buy ford. Hopefully i can get an ext. or single for cheap. and hopefully they can add power windows/locks/keyless entry when i purchase it.

not to hijack, but since someone mentioned the single cab 4.6 compared to 5.4 ext. cab. Whats the weight/length difference??

Id love to buy an ext. and add the Saleen parts, but i want handling to go with the power.

Cant give you exact figures, but I think between the singe and ext cab there is around 10 inches in lenght (124 or 126 " wheelbase Vs. 136" or so). And I know between the older reg cab and ext cab there is a 400 pound difference IIRC. Not sure if its like that with the newer ones, Im sure its something like that though...

Lol some one who knows what they are saying should help a little better

you could easily go to the ford website and look up all the specifications about the trucks ...

but since i happened to have a handy dandy 2007 F-150 mag from my dealer heres some numbers..

im assuming when you say ext cab you mean SUPER CAB ..

SCAB length with the 5.5' bed = 132.5'' wheelbase 217.8'' overall length..

SCAB WEIGHT with 5.5' bed and the 5.4L v8 = 5160lbs Max payload =1790lbs
SCAB WEIGHT with 5.5' bed and the 4.6L v8 = 4970lbs Max payload =1680lbs

if you wan tow ratings just ask.

hope that helps

Hillbilly deluxe, as decent as ur truck is it's hard to swallow you are killing the heavily modded 5.4's 0-60's, even taking the reg cab into the equation. 6.34 is damn fast, can we at least get a video.
