Lowering Question

I am thinking about lowering my truck, nothing drastic .......probably a 2/4 drop. I have searched all the forums for info and I am looking at either the DJM CA3205L2 kit (new lower control arms 2-1/2" drop) or 2" lowering springs (Roush, Eibach,?)for the front. My question is which setup is better, using new lower control arms or just changing out the springs? If you change out the springs, do you also need different shocks? Also, if anyone has installed the DJM lower control arms (2-1/2" or 3-1/2" drop) .....what was the actual distance the front was lowered and how was the ride quality?

I just removed the same DJM lower control arms you are refering to from my '04 4x4 Supercrew. They accomplish the drop by lowering the bottom strut mounting bolt location by recessing it into the control arm. That way you use the stock strut/spring combination. The ride therefore is factory. I would suggest you go with the control arms for that reason...

Thanks Marc,

I've been leaning towards the DJM lower control arms, but wanted to hear some opinions since I could get a set of springs much cheaper if I went that route. I haven't heard much about the DJM arms and the only info that I found through searches was references to your truck. How was the install and the quality? I also have a 4x4 (although a SCAB) ....was the drop about the 2-1/2" that they claim?

Anyone else have any reccomendations?

it depends on what you want. control arms and flips will give you the look but keep the same squissh ride, spring will give you the look but it'll be a lot stiffer, which is fun for taking those corners 20 mph faster than before

i love my djm 2.5/4 drop and it was exactly 2.5/4 well now its a 2.5/5 but thats a different story, install wasnt bad but it deffinatly needs an alignment and before driving it get it close to where it needs to be so you can drive it, i was lazy and the shop was far from my house so i called a tow truck

the ride is like stock and great quality

Did you have to shorten the tie rods? Looking at the DJM instructions it looked like this only had to be done for the 3-1/2" drop arms?

I have a 4x4 and my suspension is "very" stiff already in stock form. I don't think I would like it any stiffer. That may sway me more towards the DJM arms.

Out back I was just planning on removing the 4x4 blocks and using a shackle kit. I was looking at Belltech's 6425BLT shackles that have adjustment (mtg. holes) for either a 1" or a 2" drop, that way I could have some adjustment to get it where I would want it. I don't like the trucks where the **** is lower than the front.....I actually like a slight rake (I'm getting old). With the 2" drop from removing the blocks plus either a 1" or 2" drop from the shackles I would get 3-4" drop in the back.
