What oil filter to run?

I've been changing my oil with mobil 1 since day one, with the oil and filter being both mobil 1. I'm going to try royal purple and dont know which filter to use. Should I run a mobil 1 filter or just stick with a fram, purlator...etc. Thanks.

You need to make sure the filter has the Anti-Drainback Valve. Search and you will find out why.

The Motorcraft has the best anti-drainback valve.
Bar none.
I am using K&N right now (the same maker as Mobil 1 filter) and after a week of sitting the oil has drained out of the filter and I get a short faint rattle on startup. With the Motorcraft filters I have never had a rattle on startup, even after the truck sat for three weeks.

If you drive the truck every day or three the Mobil 1 or K&N is a fine choice.
The Motorcraft is the only filter that will hold the oil in it for weeks.

Reasons for using each of these follow;
The K&N is much easier to put on and take off due to the welded nut on the top. Where my filter is located it is almost impossible to remove without damaging the bottom radiator hose. The K&N is the only filter that doesn't require you to drag a tool over the hose.
The Mobil 1 and K&N filters consistently test at the top in filter comparisons, but the present Motorcraft seems to do very well.

I am confused, my past F150 4.6 2v never had a problem removing filters and the 5.4 3v looks to be in the same spot...

I won't use anything but the Motorcraft filter.

The oil filter isn't in the easiest spot to remove but it could be much worse.

I've never had a problem removing my filter, even the factory one. I would stick with the Motorcraft filter though. For the money, it can't be beat.

Ford part number F1AZ-6731-BD, better known as an FL-820S. The only filter to use.

Exactly. I will never understand why people always think there is a much better filter/oil combo out there. For 99% of the people on this forum, the Motorcraft components will offer endless miles on your engine if you actually keep it that long. Unless you live at the southpole or run the engine wide-open all the time, there is absolutely no benefit to spending 4-6X the cost in advertised "superman" filters and oil. Change the oil and filter every 5K with recommended parts and fluid, and you will have enough money in 10 years to pay off your house. These "better" oils and filters are just a gimmick to suck in people and their money. Normal use of the truck and regular maintanance will give you greater than 250K with a lot of money left over. My .02.

I pay about 2 bucks per quart (cannot remember the filter) at Walmart. I think that it can be as much as 2.60/qt at the dealer. No more than 20 bucks for filter/oil from Walmart.
