Accurate ¼ and 0-60 run data.

WELL, TODAY I decided to spend a little time and effort to get an accurate test of my ¼ mile and 0-60 run data, so I took about 3 hours off to do so. My data from before was a bit incomplete so I went all out this time.

1. First, I went to the Penske rentals here in Kennesaw, GA, and paid $10 to have my truck weighed. With a full tank of gas and a full size spare tire it weighed in at 5,851 lbs. I weigh almost exactly 200 lbs, so the total truck weight comes to 6,051 lbs with me in it.

2. I know a pilot (retired Marine aviator) who keeps his plane at the local private airport here in Kennesaw, and after a few phone calls this morning he arranged for me meet him there so I could use one of the taxi runways off to the side of the main flightline to do my test runs for almost a half hour. The benifits of this are I get to use an almost completely level piece of road thats a little over a mile long and I know exactly what the approximate elevation is, which is 1040 ft (SURVEYED) above sea level. For you doubters out there, here is a link to info about the airport that includes geographical data. http://www.fltplan.com/AirportInformation/RYY.htm
(Also, I'm not trying to wreck my truck or get thrown in jail for street racing, so I thought it was the best option.)

So, after all that said and done, here is the real data:

Vehicle:2004 F150 STX 4x4
Engine:4.6L
Gross Vehicle Weight:6,015 lbs
Fuel: Shell 93 Octane
Intake: Air Force One
Tuner: Edge Evolution, Performance Level 3
Suspension: 2.5" Skyjacker Leveling Kit
Tires: 33x12.50R17 Pro Comp All Terrain
Elevation: 1040 ft Above Sea Level (SURVEYED)
Outside Air Temp: 68° F

My fastest 0-60 run was 8.43 seconds.

Here is a crappy phone cam pic of the offending vehicle after the runs:

(Notice how much brake dust build-up on the front wheels there is after just 30 minutes of fast driving.)

Is this detailed enough for you guys? I plan on doing this again after I get my new exhaust, and asking him to video me if possible.

Thanks for all your info and input guys. A little help (and cash) goes a long way.

that seems more accurate, my friend had a similar setup and ran a 16.3 something.

thats not bad. I estimate mine to be somewhere around 16.7-16.8 1/4 mile But thats just a rough guess i really have no idea if i would even break into the 16s for sure.

Glad to see you were able to make some safe passes. Did the edge actually record your real 1/4 mile times, or are you still using the caculator?

Nice seeing the facts. Good job! Have you tried running just the intake and stock tune? If so what were your results?

(gave you some rep points)

Yeah, I used the Edge. That calculator above is part of the Edge program, it automatically downloads the info from the Edge and calculates it. You can't change anything on it if you downloaded it from the pod except vehicle weight and altitude, so those are tamper free specs.

No, I had the Edge put on after I had added the intake so I don't have any stock data. I'd like to do a run with the stock tune but I don't know how often I'll be able to go back and use the airstrip for test runs. I was going to wait until after I had put my exhaust on before I went back so I would be pestering the old guy as little as possible, but maybe I can catch him someday soon while he's already there and give it a try.

And thanks for the rep.

For all the effort I put into getting some accurate testing done I thought this thread would get more replies than it has.

I got a chance to do a second run today. This is after I tinkered with the performance tune.

Here's what I'm using with the Edge:

* 1-2 Shift = 5400
* 2-3 Shift = 5300
* 3-4 Shift = 4700
* Rev Limiter = 5600
* Timing: +1.00
* WOT Fuel = 1.60
* Shift Firmness = 1-2 +20, 2-3 +15, 3-4 +10
* Standard Shift = 1-2 +2, 2-3 +4, 3-4 +8
* Tire Size = 2632 mm

Here is the new data from todays runs:

Vehicle:2004 F150 STX 4x4
Engine:4.6L
Gross Vehicle Weight:6,015 lbs
Fuel: Shell 93 Octane
Intake: Air Force One
Tuner: Edge Evolution, Performance Level 3
Suspension: 2.5" Skyjacker Leveling Kit
Tires: 33x12.50R17 Pro Comp All Terrain
Elevation: 1040 ft Above Sea Level (SURVEYED)
Outside Air Temp: 70° F

My fastest 0-60 run was 7.91 seconds.

Notice the increase from the previous runs. Amazing really.

Wow, what was your settings on the edge when you had the 8.4 0-60?

The pre-tuned level 3 settings.

I can't wait until I get an exhaust. I forsee a flat 7 second 0-60 and a ¼ mile run in the low 15's....

The little engine that could.

Don't ask me. I tuned and re-tuned it at least 6 times before I was able to get those results.

Just something I encountered when I first got my Edge......

I don't know if you did it, but to ensure accurate data and 0-60 times as well as 1/4 mile times off the Edge unit you need to make sure you have the correct tire size. I believe the only way to do that is to measure the tire. Edge explains somewhere on their site the 3 roll method. Mark the tire and ground where the tangent point is to the ground and then move the truck untill the the tire makes exactly 3 revolutions. Measure from the original mark on the ground to where the tire is now and divide by 3 and convert to mm. This will be the number to enter. I only mention it because all the tire calculators out there are just approximations and do not take into account different manufactuers or tire wear. My tire size was off considerably using the book values.......I actually lost a couple tenths when I entered the correct size. Have fun with the Edge.....I still find myself fine tuning settings and trying runs. What I have found is that the outside temperature makes a huge difference. I would guess about a half a second from 75 degrees to 25 degrees in the 0-60.
