Push start button power source?

So Pat and I finally got my push start button to work but now I don't know where to power it to. I don't want to power it to an accessory because there is no point having it lit up during the day. Should I wire to the parking lights or is it possible to wire it to the dome lights so that is doesn't stay on all the time. I just wanted to get some feedback.

Isn't it just a momentary switch? Hook it between the RUN and START 12v+ on the key switch. That way the truck will only start when when the key is in the RUN position.

Parking lights are a good idea, but only if you leave the headlight switch on auto all the time. If you wire it to the dome light it will come on during the day, but what is that going to hurt. That way if you dont leave the switch on auto it will still light up. Maybe you could figure out how to tap into the light sensor on the dash directly. That way it will light up at night no matter what. Should just be 2 wires running to it one +12V and the a switched 12V depending on whether or not it is on. Run the switched to relay pole 85. Run 86 to ground, and 87 to the +12V on the push button and 30 to a permanent +12V. Maybe it will work.

Yah thats what i was thinking about doing. Im gonna have to do a little more research with my Ford Multimedia DVDs tho to find out what we need to tap.

I picture basically the output for the light sensor, tap it, and put a relay, and depending on what the light sensor out puts, will depend on how i wire up the relay. But i figure its closed when its light out, and open when its dark, so if so we might even be able to power it without a relay at all.

I need to research more tho. lol

I wouldnt recommend doing it without the relay. That sensor is probably pretty sensitive and to pull more current though then it is designed for could damage it. A relay is a cheap safety precaution.

Pat is my tech He knows how to wire all this stuff up I know the positive and negative wires and to tap them. I wanted to run it off the sensor. My question is...I have the stx so I don't have auto headlights so how does that fit into the scenario. I have the little sensor looking thing but I don't know if there is a sensor there....

I would tap it into the key sense black/pink wire in the steering column.

I'm lost...

Would this totally eliminate the use for the ignition key? Or would you still have to turn the key on before you push the switch... if so, what would the purpose for the push button be?

Not being sarcastic, just curious...

Right now it's just for the cool factor. It is completely unpractical but I am trying to work on a way that I won't have to use the key...

basically the switch has two purposes right now. Start the truck (with key) and depending on how its wired, the second stage is just a red light. So basically he is trying to wire the light to only come on with headlights/night time.
That is just for further clarification.
