Unhappy Shifter ****

06, 5.4, 3:73 SCREW Lariat. The shifter **** is about to drive me nuts! It's the only part of this truck i've found to be really cheap. Called the stealership to get a replacement (to try and do some modding on ) they want $58.00 for the thing! Has anybody found an aftermarket part or done any mods to the factory one. Any help on this is appreciated.

Hi.

Yup. Three come to mind immediately. Myst did a leather wrap. Josiah did a leather re-fit out of an LT(?). Both look great. I'm sure other folks have also done stuff. The design, as you'll see, does not lend itself well to many options - I really wanted that Hurst shifter look !

I did a padded Mossy Oak Camo wrap to match my Mossy Oak seats, wheel and center armrest ( what else were you expecting ) - patterned after Myst's idea. Thanks Dave

Cheers
Bubba

Yes and they gave up the project for one reason or another.

Oh, its definitely something that can be made, but just not produced and sold at a reasonable price and without its share of liability. Trust me I know as I put in many hours on this issue...

Heres my old site with all the info

i'm curious as to exactly what legal advice Broken received i regards to his shifter. there are numerous companies that produce replacement shifters for mustangs and countless ones for imports. and not all of them are simple shifter "covers". mgwtld actually makes a total replacement shifter for fox and sn95 mustangs. what gives?

...makes two of us.

There is a guy on ebay (and he's actually a member here as well) named ranchitout... he sells grab handle wraps and other goodies for the KR that he makes himself.

I've actually talked to him about trying to make something like this for us KR owners but, I'm not sure he made it very far with the design... He's impossible to contact via email (long lags on responses)... I think he's very busy and simply does this KR modification stuff on the side.

I spoke with Ed last week and I ordered some tan leather wraps. I ask him about a wrap for my shifter and he said he hasn't designed one for them yet but he will be making them sometime in the future. These wraps he make are very well made. I started putting mine on earlier today. Maybe if a lot of us email him and ask about the shifter wraps he'll make them sooner.
Here's his web page http://ranchitout.com/index.html

Those places are big companies with all the liability insurance already in place. I'm just one person with a home machine shop.

When you calculate out the cost to make all the intricate parts inside the shifter, its not worthwhile ($$$) for the big shops to spend their machining time making them. I know many people emailed mgwltd about getting a shifter made (within the past couple years) and they never decided to progress with a design which I have to assume is due to a low volume and a high cost to produce and less about the liability.

Glad to know that Ed is still thinking about that... now if I can get the guy to email me back. He's a toughy to communicate with most of the time...

If anyone is still monitoring this thread, I just bought my second '05 SCREW and this one needs a shifter Mod. If anyone has any advise or update I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
