sparkplug # survey to find answer
WE might solve the sparkplug issue, by finding a COMMON thread that Ford doesn't know about or doesn't want to admit.
If you have changed your plugs, just put down your type of truck (motorwise) and:
1-What mileage did you change at?
2-What was the number of the sparkplug you took out?
3-What was the number of the plug you installed?
4-Did any of the plugs you removed break off?
5-What was the production date of your vehicle?
Add anything else you think might show a pattern.
I have a stock '04 F150 3V 8 cyl short bed:
I changed my plugs at 47,000.
Old plug was PZT 2FE
New plug is PZT 2F
NO plug breakage, but they were very carboned up.
Prod. date:June '03
So if you changed your plugs and had good luck or bad , join in and lets see if we can figure this puzzle out.

1. 27Kish.
2. PZT-2FE
3. PZT-2F-F4
4. No.
5. April '04.
It's not carbon, it's rust. The material that the plug is made of reacts negatively to the aluminum in the cylinder head, at least that's what it looks like to me.

I can't believe you don't want to share your information about this issue.
It could simply be a specific plug number which is causing the problem!!
No answers, except Quintin?
We both had the same type of plug and both came out successfully.

04 F150 FX4 supercab. 11/11/03 build date. All 8 plugs replaced by dealer at 34,500 miles as part of cam phaser and lifters replacement under warranty. 4 plugs broke off so they had to remove heads. They reported nothing on corrosion, but why did 4 break off? Maybe just rough wrench work bcause they were doing warranty work?
