ash tray jingle

does anybody that has a FX4 that has the little carbon fiber (looking) ash tray does it rattle or jingle when shut?

mine does all the time even when the road really isn't bumpy
is there a simple fix?

Try taking the inner liner out to see if it goes away. If so put some padding in it.

IIRC, there is a TSB out for that issue. I don't know what the fix is though.... I'd have to check on Monday.

I had 2 problems with mine. One was the little removable tray. If you dont push it in hard enough it rattles all the time. The other had to do with something behind the ashtray that the dealer replaced. It would rattle only on rough roads.

This has been happening to me. I have a system and that makes it rattle also, but it does it due to the ***** on my nitto MG's so I rolled up paper towel pieces and scotched tapped them to either sides of the ashtray behind the carbon fiber so that it pushed pressure against the dash seems to work ok, but would like a more permenant (not rigged) fix.

With mudders and a system I'm sure there will be more rattles in the future.

Rattles drive me ape-sheit too. Spend $40,000 on a vehicle, and the ash tray, of all things, should definately not rattle!

Found the TSB:

TSB

Publication Date: September 15, 2006

FORD: 2004-2006 F-150
LINCOLN: 2006 Mark LT

ISSUE:
Some 2004-2006 F-150 and 2006 Lincoln Mark LT vehicles equipped with tip out ashtrays, built prior to 1/1/2006, may exhibit a rattle noise from the ashtray while driving over bumps or washboard roads, usually when the ashtray is in the closed position.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition by applying felt tape to the three (3) locating pins at the bottom back of the ashtray module.

NOTE: THIS REPAIR PROCEDURE HAS BEEN VALIDATED TO CORRECT THIS RATTLE CONCERN, REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE ASHTRAY CENTER FINISH PANEL KIT MAY NOT BE NECESSARY.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Remove the center finish panel and ashtray module.
Apply a 1/4" x 1 1/2" (6 mm x 38 mm) piece of anti-rattle felt tape or similar material from the Rotunda Squeak and Rattle Kit (164-R4900), to the three (3) locating pins on the bottom of the ashtray module. (Figure 1) Start the tape application approximately 13/32" (10 mm) from the pin and wrap the tape up and over the pin extending the tape another 13/32" (10 mm) past the pin. The tape will cause an interference fit between the pins and the instrument panel.

Figure 1 - Article 06-19-13

Reinstall the ashtray module and verify proper opening / closing efforts.
Properly position the clips on the back of the center finish panel, replace broken clips as required.
Reinstall the center finish panel and verify proper fit to the instrument panel.

Always have. It's on the back of a lot of panels in every vehicle. They stick it where it could possibly make contact with a neighboring part so the two can't contact each other.
