Remote start/ security package

I have a 06 Lariat and I am considering a remote start and maybe security package. I stopped at the dealership today to inquire about it and nobody seemed to know much detail about them. They had no brochures there either. A salesman is going to have their installer guy leave some brochures next time he comes thru but I dont wanna wait haha so here I am asking.

What features do you get with each package...bronze/silver/gold ?
After some reading on here Ive seen mention of one way/ 2 way...different variations in distance...units that work via cell phone etc. Are these options that are available in a dealership package or do ya gotta go elsewhere to get the fancy stuff?

The only info I got outta the salesman really was that the Gold package runs $650 installed. Which seems high to me but wudoo I know. Is that a decent price for a dealership installed gold package?

I had the factory "silver" unit put on my wife's Explorer last year, and it is just a remote start/keyless entry system. The bronze is a remote start only, the silver adds keyless entry, and the gold adds an alarm. BTW the silver installed was 4 bills

look on www.gemsen.com/ford

It has the owner's manuals as well as installation manuals.

My dealer charges $400 installed for the silver kit, $500 for the gold kit.

I got the "silver" system cheap on ebay and had it installed for around $100.

^^^also, I just noticed on that website that they have new Gen2 systems for 2007. Never heard of them until just now. Anyone else know anything about them?

I've put remote starts on the last couple vehicles that I have had. I use the crimestopper brand and buy them off ebay for around $60 - $80 then install them my self. They are nice and not that hard to install as long as you find a good wiring guide off the internet. Plus i really don't want anyone but me hacking into my wiring.

Is this right? Am I missing something or is this a complete kit? I've seen the 791 for over $500 while searching and then came across this...http://www.cbrstereo.com/index.asp?P...odID=1027&HS=1

One question, could this be hooked up to turn on aftermarket heated seats?

That looks complete. I've seen them on ebay for around that price new too. I know a little about wiring but I wouldn't install mine I had a local shop do it for me. It took them all day. But I wanted them to do few extra things with it for me. I think the seats could be tied in but you might need a relay. I didn't ask about that when I had mine done.

Yes another vote for the 791VX

I guess you just have to know how to "work" the dealership aftermarket guys. I got my keyless remote start alarm (gold, I guess) for $400 installed. The OEM is CodeAlarm. It was also covered under my warranty ... that is until I passed 36K miles. That means any Ford dealership can work on it ... means you can call the 1-800 in the middle of the night to have it towed, etc. should anything go wrong with the alarm. Personally, I'm very happy with my choice.

I have an Audiovox Remote Start/Alarm. Cost me $225 installed, I think. It works just fine. It's the Pro 9800 unit BTW...

Code alarm...it works with the factory keyless pad if you have it. Plus, all the other cool features available.

I just bought 2 code alarm CA-670's from Travis at KCAutosound with the ford pre-wire and he asked aquestions like rer-window defrost or any other asscesories that I wanted the remote to control for the pre-wire. His installation instructions are spot on and have color photos of the install. Travis was VERY helpful in giving me information on what type of system I needed for what I wanted it to do. I would recomend giving Travis a call or visit his website KCAutosound.com. Also this sytem alllows the keypad to arm/disarm the alarm.
