Texas Beach Off-Roading?

Well next weekend I am heading to the beach from DFW. I'll be in the Galveston/Crystal Beach area. Anyone know of any off-roading hot spots down that way? I'm going to try and get some kick *** sand playing pics.

You're going to dig pretty fast with the grapplers either way. Air down until your footprint pans out (big difference in 10psi and 15) and no sharp turns at speed, save those beads. :\

When you get into galveston hit the seawall then make a right. You will drive probably another 30-40 minutes and see a large bridge. You can exit right before the bridge get on the beach and backtrack. You will see quite a few trails and people fishing. The sand here is extremely soft and is pretty much 4x4 only territory. You can drive on the beach for quite a while in the direction you came from before it will kick you back out on the main road by some large poles running up the beach stopping you from going any farther.

You can also ride the ferry to crystal beach. once on the beach you can make a left and drive for another 30 minutes. You will eventually find this old eroded blacktop highway that makes for some decent offroading. Watch out some old nude sunbathers like to hang around there and if your not careful you may catch a sight of some 90 year old lady with **** hanging to her knees

That old eroded blacktop is Hwy 87, if you can follow it all the way it will take you to Sabine Pass, this is where hurricane Rita hit last year. Just for your info

Hey guys I think I'll try to hit the Sabine pass area. I'll be staying around there anyways so that will make for a closer drive. I don't really want to air down, down there, I'm not sure if they have any air compressors in chrystal beach that will air my tires back up. Plus im going to be down there with bro and dad who have big trucks and can pull me out, except they're not 4WD's Here's mine(b4 lift) and dads truck. at Crystal Beach.

The bridge previously mentioned "South" of Galveston, going down the seawall is "San Luis Pass" Toll Bridge. Bring your tow strap and you can make enough money to pay for your gas back to DFW. There are always tons of idots that try to run the dunes/sand there in 2wd vehicles. That will be the best place within 40 miles to run on the sand within Galveston. Be careful though, some areas back by the bay can be pure marsh that will suck your truck down to the frame.

Since you'll be in Crystal Beach, you'll be across the ferry. That side of the beach doesn't have too many places to play, but the crowds might be better. Bring a surf rod and chunk some cut Mullet or Menhaden fromt he beach and you should be able to pull in some Bull Reds right now. Their making their fall spawning run and are a heck of a lot of fun to catch!

Be careful with those 2wd's. In sand HP doesnt matter near as much as what you actually put on the ground. Those 2wd will be on the bad end of your strap quite a bit when the going gets soft. I drug quite a few trucks out of the soft spots with my Dodge in the picture above. Best chance the 2wds have is to keep the speed up and try to stay on the hardpacked sand as much as possible.

I have been needing to get my Ford down there and check it out in the sand, as mentioned its always fun to pull out stuck trucks and helps to make some extra coin

Their 2WD's actually do pretty good in the sand. As far as pulling people out for a buck. I enjoy pulling people out, makes me feel like im using the monster that i built. I would feel just bad charging someone to pull them out... Ive been pulled out many of times for free. So I feel that I should do the same. What goes around comes around. Dont be afraid to lend a FREE helping hand.

As mentioned by other posters, San Luis Pass Bridge would give you the best opportunity to get some action pictures. The shore has vast amounts loose sand and large areas of standing water. Following I45 south out of DFW. Drive till you reach the island. Exit for the seawall. Once at the seawall turn right (south) and drive till you hit the first bridge. This will seem like forever but actually takes only about 20 min. I have taken my 2wd there several times without getting stuck. Its all about technique. Watch out for quads and children.

Crystal beach is only good for crusing and swimming. The local cops patrol this area and will write citations if they catch you tearing up the beach (doughnuts, dune jumping, etc). Dont give them a chance to compound the fines by conducting roadside inspections and discover that your tint is too dark, tires extend beyond wheel wells, loud exhaust, open container....

You guys are making me miss my teen years.
I graduated from Texas City High School (which is on the mainland across from Galveston Island) and recall numerous adventures in Galveston and Crystal Beach.

Fun times.
