Hunter Bullbar Installed...

Well today I got my Hunter Bullbar off of Ebay. I paid for it on the 2nd, so shipping was very quick. I'll start out by saying I give this a 4.5 out of 10 rating...

The pros:
1) It comes with all parts needed for install -- if you have tow hooks or not.
2) Compared to Westin it's VERY cheap!

The cons:
1) Install directions where hand writen.
2) Several imperfections on the surface of it.
3) The powder coating was cracked on one side where it mounts to the truck.
4) Even my g/f (who knows next to nothing about cars/trucks) said it didn't feel that sturdy.

Since the directions were written out by hand, I believe this kit is universal. I'm not going to worry about the surface of it being a little messed up, because my truck is far from a mall crawler! I bought it for two reasons: to dress out the front of the truck and mount more driving lights. I don't plan on bumping into trees or rearending anyone, so I'm not going to worry about it not being rock-solid.

If anyone is looking for a cheap bullbar & doesn't mind not having Westins skid plate, then this is an ok solution...

I forgot to mention the fact that it only took 30 min's to install. I could see it taking much longer if you had to pull the front valence & cut the holes. I'm about to head out for school (CCNA class)... I'll try to get them posted tonight or tomorrow morning.

Nope! There WILL be some posted soon. I have pictures of the bullbar installed, but I just picked up a set of KC Daylighter lights -- 150w / 385,000 candlepower! About to go install them now

That's good. I was looking at that guard for a long while, since it was so inexpensive, but decided to go another way with the look. Look forward to the pics.

Okay, so I'm a little late with the pictures. They're in my gallery now

https://www.f150online.com/galleries....cfm?gnum=7639

I read about these KC's in another thread. I loved the fact that they're 150 watt / 385,000 candlepower each! They cut thru the Silverstars with ease, and light up ANYTHING in their path. I haven't gotten a chance to really dial them in yet, because of rain. Now, the second round of problems:

I get home and find out the lights are way to big. I ended up having to remove the shock mounts from the KC's, and completely move the mounting brackets. I had to flip them backwards, move them closer to centerline and lower them. Even with all that done I had to push the bullbar as far forward as I could.

The only problem I have with the KC kit is the wiring harness. It's fused up at 25 amps thru a #16 wire. After less than a minute of the lights being on the main power wire & ground were HOT. Not hot enough to melt, but hot enough that I WILL be replacing them with a #12 ASAP. As for the rocker switch, I mounted it to the left of the E-brake release handle. I need to rewire the trigger... right now it's on a constant hot, and I need to move it so it'll only come on with the truck is on.

I MAY end up trading in the F150 for a '06 F250 or 350... depends on the incentives they'll give me...

If not I THINK I can get some hooks mounted under there. Not the OEM style loops, but hooks like you'd get at AutoZone or Advanced. The factory bolts are plenty long enough. I already hate not having a front extraction point. I've pulled dozens of people out using the front loops, and been pulled out once or twice!

I think you should paint the bolts on the bottom. They stick out like a sore thumb. It looks good, i would take it off and have it painted or something where the powder coating is cracked. It won't take long for rust to start. I had a problem with my tube steps years ago, they replaced them due to they kept rusting. I took them over to Line-x and had them spray the bed liner stuff on them. They never rusted again. Good luck...
