Running Lean
i can easily cover the hole in the hood, but theres no pan that seals the filter up to the hood, like a true ram air. the scoop is just blowing cool air over the entire motor. the filter is just situated in a way where its in the path of cool air. eventually, i'd like to run the Volant
Hi.
Okay, but you'd still be stuck with the MAF transfer function being off as Anthony alluded to, and to be safe, would still require datalogging to see what is going on.
I think Anthony also nailed that breather issue - good catch there bud - sharper eyes than this old coot has
. Check in the Lightning forum for correct breather mods.
As for the Volant, that's fine, but they have their own issues:

i don't doubt you guys for one minute, but i was thinking about this on the way home today... with all the guys running shaker hoods, which is almost the same concept as mine, how do they make them work? i mean, are we just talking MAF placement, or forced cold air, or what?
i believe that the 04's had a lean condition to begin with.as for the shaker hoods it still incorporates the stock air box and filter allowing the maf to work correctly.your maf being mounted in that spot is reading cold air as you are cruising and the pcm is trying to scale up enough to make up for the cooler temps and as you slow down it has to scale all the way back.in other words the pcm is unable to make the corrections needed due to the factory tuning.and the jlt says custom tuning. as far as the tables in the fords i am unsure of them. but in the ls1 engine pcm's there were multiple tables that could be tuned to make up for that including fuel enrichment along with regular and performance tables. in short the pcm with stock calibration is unable to make up for the cooler temps and then the heat when at or near idle.

It is only a matter of time ....
