Anyone make a custom upper control arm
Anyone make a custom upper control arm
I was wondering why someone does not make a simple tubular upper control arm with a drop. This would fix the very steep ball joint angle.
Holy cow I should get a pipe bending machine and a welder. The profit margine on these products is seriously insane. I could see maybe $350-400 for the set. Or is there something cheaper out there that's better than stock that would fit my price expectations.
Good luck getting the proper angles, chromoly plating/tubing at a good price, the uniballs and the bushings at decent prices. Plus a good mig welder cost's around 1500 hundo. My buddy could fab you up a pair but it would actually cost more that 7 hundo.

Sorry for the thread jack. I was just shocked to see these cost this much when I've been thinking of the possibility of having to replace these in the future.

I'm not bashing total chaos, but it seems like they are taking advantage of the fact that they are the only ones providing this product. I also realize that they are charging for R&D, labor, and advertisement; but when the profit margin is so high for a product that takes less than a couple of hours assemble, I just can't justify not making them myself.
With that said, I don't have acccess to a MIG right now, but I don't think there would be any negative drawbacks in using steel tubing instead of the chromoly. Just my 2 cents. On a side note, 04procompLARIAT has one sweet truck, and the total chaos UCA's look really nice with the procomp setup. I'm sure the UCA's were money well spent.
