Need advice on PINGING
My truck recently started pinging at almost all points in the throttle. It never used to do it before I changed the fuel filter, I replaced it with a WIX filter. My truck is completely stock. I have searched and I have tried the following:
Cleaned MAF
Injector Cleaner
New Air Filter
I have not tried the following but I don't want to waste a ton of money:
Taking it to the dealer
Replacing Knock sensor
Replacing PCV
Replacing EGR Valve
Running higher octane (should be able to use 87 since it was tuned for that)
Any suggestions would be appreciated from anyone who has resolved this issue before. I am willing to throw a little money at it before going to the dealer but I need some advice first, thanks in advance.

Unless Wix has discovered a way t remove octane from gas, the filter has nothing to do with it. Run a tank of 91 0r 93 and see what happens. Some thing is wrong with the gas or your timing.

I used to go to Quick Trip and get my gas but now I go to Shell since the pinging which has helped a little. I am going to try higher octane but I don't understand why I should have to use 89 or 91, just doesn't make sense since I have always used 87 and I suddenly have pinging. I'm at 45,000 so the warranty is gone or it would have been my first choice.
I wonder if I should check for a vacuum leak with starter fluid?
Keep the advice coming, I'm open to any ideas..........thanks!

DO NOT use a higher octane. Using higher octane fule is BAD for your engine if you do not have proper tuning along with it.
You may want to pick up a bottle of the chevron/Techron fuel system cleaner and run that through your tank. Also, stick with Shell gas for a few tanks. A problem like this could take some time to clean the fuel delivery system to goa way.
I do not believe Sea Form would be needed at this point. That's for very old engines.

I recently changed to a wix filter and I get a terrible rattle during startups. I also have a ticking (might be one of the 2 cats, I cut off the back two) or moreso rattling at light throttle takeoffs. Wonder if any of this can be tracked to the Wix filter, I use Royal Purple and skimped on the filter...ugh.
It has to be something that is causing predetenation, or a timing issue. It will not hurt to run a tank of higher octane to find out if it eliminates the pinging. If it does or does not, then you have something to tell a technician when you take it in. You should not have to run higher octane all the time.

Good timing on this thread. My '05 is going to the dealer on Tuesday for this exact problem. I've got 32K miles and want to get whatever it is taken care of before the warranty expires. I've tried mid-grade gas, buying from different stations (I usually buy Mobil) but no luck. I seem to notice the pinging/knocking when giving a gentle acceleration around 35 - 45 MPH. Lately I've noticed a single distinct knock when doing a warm start, like after stopping at the store or filling up.
Unexplained noises deep within the block always worry me and I hope this is timing-related or some other simple issue. I hope I get a good tech on Tuesday!

I believe higher octane will NOT hurt anything, your just throwing away the extra you pay for it, on a stock vehicle anyway.
