Suspension GuRus
Suspension GuRus
Right now, I have the stock shocks up front with a 2" lower coil from GroundForce.
What I would like to do is have the front a little softer with a little more rebound (I think thats the right term) so when I nail the throttle, the front will come up more and transfer weight better.
Softer ride up front with better weight transfer.... what can I do to help this?
New shocks?, New springs? A softer spring and a harder shock?
Any help is much appreciated.
EDIT: Also in the rear, I have a flip kit. I'm using the ground Force bumpstops.. they are approx. 2 3/8" tall. With those bumpstops, I have 3/4" of suspension travel in the rear before I hit the bump stops.
3 questions.
1. Are the bump stop mounting holes (where they screw into the C-clip on the frame) universial? Will DJM or Belltech bumpstops screw right in?
2. Whould I need longer or shorter rear shackles in order to raise the suspension up about an "1.
3. What shocks would be stiffer than the Ground Force shocks? GF shocks are for lowered trucks.

if money isn't an issue, the H&R coilovers are the best bet up front. 3/4", that's it? must be a nice ride tryin to dodge the potholes... I've got the toxic shocks in the rear, and what a difference from the stock ones. i also heard bilsteins are the way to go if you're lookin for a stiff one.
i had a similar issue with mine, with the 3" drop coils and i switched over to the 3.5" drop arms. seems to be 100% better, minus the cornering like an M3...

sounds to me like you want a different shock with more rebound, a different spring wont help lift the front, except if you got a stiffer spring which sounds like you dont want, since it will be a rougher ride.
the GF bumpstops, i havnt seen them but heard they are the foam type bump stops that are cushioned and actually compress when they are hit, and yes the djm bump stops just screw in, they are shorter but they are stiffer and will be a harsher bump when you hit it
and to lower your truck in the rear an inch it would take a longer shackle, the same as all drop shackles, most come with 2 holes one for a 1" drop and 1 for a 2" drop, i have a flip with a 1" eibach shackle, you will need a shorter bolt on the shackle to do this though, but only for the 1" not the 2"

I'll re-phrase my wants in a shorter paragraph.
I want the rear of the truck to be stiff.. so the rear suspenion doesnt soak up my torque when I launch.. I also want a little more suspension travel in the rear because I only have about 3/4".
I want the suspension in the front to be softer for better weight transfer, yet still lowered like it is.
The ride right now is good... but when I hit a speed bump.. its hell on my spine as the axle bounced off the bump stops.
I'm in the weeds and handling good. That's from ground to frame.

I just want a better set up for weight transfer for a better launch.
H&R shocks, I'll look into them. Thanks.

I'd ditch the flip kit and run dearched leafs. I would say run drop leafs like my belltech but it might be to soft for you. I know mine are dearched and really killed the idea of hauling anything over 500 pounds. I dunno what would be more important cornering or launching.... I would take cornering. short springs. stiff shocks amd swaybays. oh my
I had similar issues (and the same kit) on my truck. but I upgraded to nilsteins in the front day 1, and I added Ground Force REAR air shocks to bring the rear up 1 inch, giving the truck a 100% perfectly level stance, and no more bottoming out. Plus, the shocks are adjustable if you need to tow a really heavy load.
As for ride quality? I think the Bilstein's may be a tad stiff, but for all I know it would be the springs or my 305/40/22 wheel/tire combo. Truck corners like it is on freakin rails, but it gets a little jittery over bumpy stuff on the road. Not terrible though. I think I am just picky. After riding in my GFs Acura RSX (2005) for a few days, I got back in my truck and it felt like silk in comparison. Her car is stock...

o i thought you said you wanted to lower it an inch sorry well then djm has a 1"lifting hanger you probably wont find it any where unless if you call djm and get it from them, its a part of thier 3.5/5 drop, buuut that will soften the rear spring rate but will be an inch higher
the front keep your coils and get some high rebound shocks, which may be hard to find, you could also do a dual shock setup i know its a bit unorthadox for a droped truck but would be much easier to find a high rebound shock not made for our truck to adapt onto it if you are creative, if you wanna do that ill point you in the right direction for some racing shocks at a decent price
