Just Mount the Dang Things!...

So, I stopped by the tire shop to get my 285/70 17 BFG A/Ts mounted , and it took me about 20 minutes to convince the tire guy that they were going to fit on the truck. He says "I dunno, that is an awful big tire." I'm like yeah, no #*^$, that's why I bought them, jacko! I have a leveling kit, so I don't know why he didn't think they would fit. I thought I was gonna have to drag him online and show him some pictures. I finally told him that I just paid for the tires and would like them mounted so I could go home!

Then, I get home and check the pressure and they had them at 58 psi From searching around here, 45 seems to be the magic number. I think I'll try that and see what I think. Anyone think any different?

You mean Wandell? He's the tire/lift/suspension guru of this site.

Betcha Wandell recommends 35psi.

That is a load range D tire. 45 would be about right. 35 would be for a p series tire.

just because i tire is of more ply does not mean you need to run more air. it just means you can if you haul more wieght. you will never exceed the load capacity of those tires at 40 psi and if you do then your truck would be way overloaded. to put things short just run what it says inside your door

If his OE tires are load range c, the door is going to say around 40. If he puts P series tires on the max may be 35. Are you suggesting he puts 5 lbs too much air in the tires.
Every door sticker is different depending upon the type and load range of the tires that are on the vehicle from the factory.

I'd use 40 psi as a starting point.

I've been running mine at 36psi and have 65K miles on the tires. Yes, 65 Thousand miles. They're Awesome!

40 would work but they'll ride a little rough. Definitely not 45, you'll bounce off the road. Literally!

4wheelparts in San Antonio lost my biz along time ago with my 00 Ranger 4x4 that I wanted 265/75/16s put on like the ranger forum guys were doing... They wouldn't do it... I said fine and went to discount tires and had no troubles... Never did crank the torsion bars either...
