Outlaw CAI

Here is the response I got to a question about the Outlaw CAI...thought I would share for those considering the Outlaw for their 2004+ 5.4L F-150:

My Question:
Just wanting to confirm, as I am not finding it explicitly stated anywhere, whether or not the filter element on a Outlaw Outlaw Cold Air Intake for Ford F150 | 5.4L (04-05) requires oiling?

Outlaw Tech Support Reply:
Currently our filter is a K&N style (oiled) We are manufacturing a "Neveroil" filter element and will be released in the next few weeks. The problem for your application is that we will not introduce the dry element until the 2nd or third phase(2-3 months away). The Neveroil filter will be initially released for the Diesel and GM applications.

Well IMHO I would not even consider purchasing that CAI I would get one from Air Raid, K&N, or a "household" brand that has a bigger following, Honestly not impressed with the Outlaw system at all.

I have the Outlaw and like it.
I have nothing to compare it to. Neither have I put it on a dyno.
I can say that I could tell the difference in the throttle response after putting it on. Not a HUGE increase, but a noticeable increase.
If one were to buy it from pyrobuddah on Ebay there would be a savings of approx. $75 over other brands. To me, $75 is nothing to sneeze at.
Has anyone done a dyno with the Outlaw that you guys are aware of?

Outlaw Power, Banks, and Volant are the only true cold air intakes (cai) systems with true cold air boxes.

Most others are warm air intakes (wai) with partial metal "heat shields".

Aaron at Outlaw emailed me back and said that the cotton gauze comes from the same company that makes it for K&N (I didn't think that K&N grows their own cotton). The cotton gauze filter comes pre-oiled.

Side comment, I think their SolidWorks modeling is pretty cool:
