Fuel Gauge / Sending Unit Bad ?

I should have taken care of this while it was under warranty but it's not a huge problem....aggravating, but that's about it. What happens is (I've got the 36 gallon tank) when it gets down to about 1/4 tank, the gauge will always stop there on 1/4...and it will only start working again once the tank is almost empty. It's as if the sending unit float or whatever is getting hung up once it gets to about 1/4 tank. So of course you can never really tell how much gas you have unless you go ahead and fill up once it hits 1/4. Not a big deal around town since I try to keep it more full than that, but on long trips it can be a problem if you don't know where you are in gas between 1/4 and empty.

Was there ever a tech bulletin or known problem about this? Just curious.
