4.6L has finally woke up... I can't believe it.

Thank you cold weather...or....

Today I was at a traffic light and was just going about my business accelerating like usual, but today was different... I squeeled the tires on accident (I couldn't even squeel the tires if I wanted to acouple weeks ago). HAHA. This didn't seem normal for my 4.6L... so I go to a backroad and floor it and to my suprise my tires spun a good 2-3 seconds on my Michelin tires. WHAT IN THE HECK HAS HAPPENED TO MY LITTLE OLE 4.6L?

Has the engine finally broken in at 6,500 miles?
Cold air?

Or a combination of both.

Many of you are going to call BS on this, but this past Saturday I test drove a new 2007 FX2 and by golley my 4.6 felt faster than that 5.4 I drove Saturday. I am in shock.

I think your engine has finally broken in. I had a similar experience with a 4.6 a few years ago. Its like one day it all of a sudden gained a couple cylinders.

I've read these modular engines are very tight when new and take a long time to break-in.

Your truck does not have the XLT package. It's got the Power Equipment Group. Aside from that, pretty cool that the 4.6L will burn rubber.

It also could be a cooler tire and cooler road.

I assume it has the XLT package because of the power equipment group and power seats, it has everything an XLT has except the message center, and of course chrome bumpers.

XLTs don't get the message center. It's not even an option I think. But my XLT doesn't have power seats.

The power seats are a stand alone option. The Power Equipment Group does not classify it as the XLT Package. But, you can put that if you want. I was just letting you know the technical name of it from Ford is the "Power Equipment Group." It includes cruise, power mirrors, power locks, power windows. Sorry for getting your thread off track...

Dunno why all the 5.4 people think the 4.6 is bad. My truck would 'chirp' the stock tires from new. Hot weather, California blend gas, 3500 feet altitude.
That's with 3.55 gears and stock 17 Mich. tires.

Now it's tuned with exhaust, intake and it burn the much heavier 18 inch Lariat rims/tires on launch, chirps second.
I would guess that a 4.6 in a SuperCrew would be underwhelming, especially with the 3.55 gears.

I have driven almost two dozen of these trucks, mostly 5.4, mostly stock and with the exception of the 'work truck' 4.10 geared one, they are not much quicker, if any than my 4.6 tweaked.
Most of the 5.4 trucks I’ve driven wouldn’t spin the tires off the line.
Again, stock.
Sure the 5.4 will PULL a heck of a lot more, but don’t underestimate the smaller engine in the lighter trucks.
Chris

When i have money burnin a hole in my pocket, it will be tuner time.

Mine's been able to burn some rubber since about 10k (I'm over 13k already....:o ...what can I say? I travel.)

But yep... here in North Texas the other morning when cooler out it seemed to be more jumpy.

I actually burned on a right turn without trying to.

It was fun.
