Angry just got a call from the wife.....

She was droping of the f-150 at the dealer to have some service work done, and she backed into a light pole. I get outta work in a little while so I am gonna stop at the dealer and see how bad the damage is. She said that it is bent at the bottom and pushed up and in. What ideas does everyone have for replacing a rear chrome bumper? Ebay? Aftermarket? Stealership?

Well, the dealership would probably be the last choice, just based on pricing.

Call your insurance agent and ask what they think. You may be able to get the insurance to cover it, minus your deductible. It is worth a telephone call.

first of all, never let a woman drive your truck. I was at a bon fire one time and it got busted by the cops. well I had been drinking, so my mom had to come up there and drive my truck home. first she got stuck, then she ran over a cooler, and then she got stuck again before another kids dad got in and drove my truck to the road. while the guy was driving my truck up to the road, the officer gave my mom a breathalyzer.

anyways, check ebay first. also check your local junk yards. if you dont come up with anything there, I think a new one is like $250 at the dealership.

got any pictures?

My wife drove my previous 2001 F-150 once....it cost me/us $ 7,000.00.
She hit one of those 4 ft cement filled posts in a strip mall.
She does NOT drive my current 2004.
p.s. yes we are still married...

Ok guys I saw the truck.... It has about a softball sized and shaped dent in the passanger side rear bumper. Looking at it I am wondering if there is any way to bang the dent out. I will get pics when it gets home from the dealer. In the mean time anychance of knocking a dent like that out?

car-parts.com. Insurance agents use that as a resource for part replacement. You can get a painted bumper for the same price I imagine but bumpers are almost always the first thing damaged on a vehicle, and those are totalled vehicles in junkyards I believe (for the most part).

Hey dartmania... I would send you a personal message but I can't.

After you get a quote for a new bumper, post it on here. I'm looking into getting rid of my rear chrome bumper (perfect condition) and getting a roll pan.

maybe we can work together on this one so we each get what we want.

that's great

As odd as it sounds, it's happened to us all. My friends are just used to it.

It's OK...this happens to all of us at one time or another. My sister drove my old '97 about a mile down the road to her house a few years ago not noticing the empty Rubbermaid trash can wedged between the lower valence and the blacktop. This comes up at every family get-together, "how in the world does someone not notice running over a 55-gal trash can?".

Go OEM. I purchased an aftermarket bumper on eBay in an attempt to save some money. But it turned out to be a much thinner piece of metal than the OEM bumper and also rough around the edges.

1st ford parts has done me very well on a new front bumper and some other things I would give them a try.The Japan made parts are not worth it by any means.Holes wont line up it they are there at all, very thin and will come tweaked in some way for sure.Or make nice with a small local body shop.I have and it has paid off 10 fold.
