Help! Stock is boring

I just bought a 2005 4 door lariat that has the 5.4L

I am coming from a Supercharged Harley-davison truck that could eat tires for breakfast and now I can't even break the tires loose (truck has 18,000 so its broken in).

What mods are most responsive for this truck, besides a supercharger, I dont have $6000 so spend, and I don't want nitrous.

Are there any mods that will make this thing wake up so it can smoke the tires (without holding down the brake)??

Edge evolution, ordering mine tommarow, have heard nothing but good things about how much it wakes these trucks up...

go up to the chips & programming forum- supercharger's really the only thing that'll get you to turn em over without the brake, but there a series of steps one can take to get it closer- 95 in second works for me- xcal2

Tuner then gears. These trucks come stock with 3.55 or 3.73 gears. CAFE freeway gearing in a truck with a low RPM engine and high geared tranny does not equal quick.

Putting 4.36 gears under it with stock rubber and you should be able to smoke em pretty good.

That big a change in gears would give you the same result as adding roughly 50 ponies. If you have a two wheel truck it should set you back about 500-700 bucks out the door.
The tuner would also boost your power, as well as being needed to adjust the speedometer.

I've driven the 4.10 geared work truck, no mods, stock 32 inch tires and it would light them up.

If your truck is a 2 wheel drive with 265-60-18 (30.6 inch) tires you probably have 3.55 gears. If your truck is a 4x4 with 3.73 gears it probably has 32 inch tall tires, thus maintaining the same final drive.

For a grand you could get more off the line/through the gears result than some of the 5000 buck superchargers.
You would lose some top end, but who the heck ever takes one of these trucks to 120-140 anyway?
You may lose gas mileage around town, or you may not. Results vary. You will probably lose gas mileage at freeway speed.

Remember, I am talking about lowering final ratio. If you put bigger diameter tires on you diminish the power.

The 'charm' of a supercharger is that it can, at least in theory, give you more power without lowering your daily gas consumption.

I say start with a tuner intake and exhaust then possibly gears. I currently have the edge AEM and the banks exhaust. And i am considerin gears. Though i am not able to smoke the tire from a stop i am able to get them to break loose a little bit now. I also have 33in tires witht the 3.55. No the best combo. All the mods definetly woke the truck up.

If i had the grip, I would get a nice exahust system from headers to double side exhaust done. Everyone has them out the back. Edge it and maybee an intake but I heard mixed stories on them. Also scared of making the truck run lean and kill my motor. Lots of people have them and there ok though.

Here is a list, 1. free flowing exhaust, 2. intake (airaid, Airforce 1) 3. prgrammer (Edge or Xcal2 by either Troyer or Juenes (sp?) The reason that I say in thsi order is, if you get a Xcal2 then it can be custom tuned for your truck with our mods. Then after the first 3 steps I would get, gears, E-fans, pulleys.

IMO the #1 bang for the buck mod is custom tuning via the XCal2. It made a huge difference in performance for my 04; it really made the truck fun to drive
