New F-150 in '08

I don't know if this is old news or not, but I saw this in an article about all the unfortunate layoffs and plants closings that Ford is doing.

The company also said it would roll out new or significantly upgraded cars and trucks in 70 percent of its Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands, expanding in growing areas such as car-based crossovers. At the same time, Ford said it will try to maintain its lead in the truck segment by introducing a new F-150 that will go on sale in 2008.
Maybe the new F-150 will have a diesel in it. My fingers are crossed anyway!

It will be a 2009 vehicle launched during the latter part of 2008. From what I have read anyway.

I don't understand why people want a diesel in the F150. Isn't that why Ford has the SuperDuty?

Definitely a diesel and a "high performance" gas engine.

Some of us have a love for diesel engines. I don't need the capabilities of a Superduty. The F-150 meets my needs. A diesel engine is also much more efficient than a gasoline engine. If every vehicle in the US was currently running off of diesel fuel we would not have to import a single drop of oil.

I would like to get an F-150 with a diesel, too. The major downside I can see is that a disel would raise the price of the truck considerably. Right now it costs an extra $5k to get a diesel SD. Hopefully Ford won't charge that much for the smaller diesel that's planned to be put in the F-150's.

Fuel economy is the big reason. My parents have a 06 VW Jetta TDI (turbo diesel) I just took that on a little road trip to help my girlfriends sister move into college. And the little VW got 48.9mpg, this was 95% highway driving. And my mom said that she gets usually around 43-44mpg just driving back and forth to work, where my girlfriend gets 28-30mpg driving my Focus. If Ford does put an diesel in the F150 I am guessing that it should get somewhere in the 22-25 mpg range, this is just a guess but heck my old man was getting 19-20 running empty on long highway trips with a 99 F350 4X4 SC, dually, 7.3L PSD/6spd.

As for price, with the VW the window sticker said that the TDI was only like a $500 or $700 option, unlike the $5000+ that you have to shell out for a PSD, Cummins, or Duramax.

The below is what I saw on CNN Money about the F150

Ford promised Friday that the new redesign of the F-150 pickup, still the nation's best-selling vehicle model, will be unlike anything else seen in the market when it hits showrooms in late 2008.

i would like the option of a diesel too, but where did you come up with that last statement?

I am an engineering student at NCSU. WRAL is just where I check for all the local news.

I have heard this multiple times from professors and from articles written about how dependent we are on foreign oil.

My dad's F-250 4x4 Crew Cab with the 7.3L averages over 16 mpg in a much heavier truck. This average includes towing. I can barely get 15 mpg in my F-150 driving like a grandma. Diesel is just that much more efficient than gasoline.
