2004 rear end stutter
2004 rear end stutter
I searched! Too many ways to describe this issue, so searching is difficult. Thanks for your patience!
Can anyone explain, point me elsewhere, give me a fix, etc. for what feels like the rear end stuttering? Only on take off, and not all the time. maybe just after the truck Has sat a while or taking off in a turn. Not engine and not transmission. Almost like the rear tires are slipping.
Otherwise, the truck drives great.
Thanks in advance!

Do you have a limited slip differential? I've been told that from time to time you may feel a slight shudder from of this type of rear end. I'm not sure if it would apply to your situation or not, but it's something to consider.
FWIW -- I have limited slip on my truck and have never noticed any unusual shudder from the unit.

The search for 'shudder' helped. Thanks!
I hosestly don't know if I have LS. I just got my truck (used) a few weeks ago. It is my 4th F-150, but first FX4 and new body style, etc.
Anybody have a link or copy of the driveshaft TSB?

Look at the door jam sticker. If the rear axle code is a letter and a number (example H9), it is a limited slip.
I have a 2005, and had the same thing, or what "sounds" like the same thing. Took my truck to the dealer, and they replaced the driveshaft....said it was not uncommon, and that the replacement shaft was larger diameter....covered under warranty, and I think there were also a service bulletin on it as well.
Typically happened when acclerating from a stop....felt like something was just not 100% connected...."shudder" was the best description.

If the truck is out of warranty, I would not replace the clutch packs. One suggestion a couple of years ago was to go to an empty parking lot and make a bunch of figure 8s to make the clutches slip and thereby loosen them up. they said it works but I don't know myself.
i just picked up a 2005 that did this on take off, i was being told all kind of fixes. i cornered one of the guys and he told me, $40 bucks for a single $80 for a split drive shaft, he took them off, lubed them put them back, fixed it
if i did not see it for myself i would have said bullshiat, i had other folks telling me rear end, blah blah blah....
it acted just like it, we would power brake it and the rear end would pop and jump just like the gears was slipping
save your money, ford put a small amount of lube and after it moves back and forth the lube gets moved so that there is a small amount of play.......blah blah
