Please help a Newbie with the Edge

I did a search and there seems to be so many posts on the Edge it is a little confusing after reading allot of them so I was hoping someone could just give me the fine points.

If I under stand correctly it is a small device about the size of a Sat Radio that hooks into our F150's. It allows us to adjust what exactley ? What do they run retail cost wise ? Are they an install yourself unit ? Can a truck be really messed up by using it the wrong way ?

I love my F150 this is actually my 8th one and I am getting ready to order a new again end of November and am wondering of this is a toy I should invest in.

Thanks for the feedback in advance !!

think of the Edge as a tuner with built in gauges. You can also use it to correct the speedo if you add larger tires, change shift points, etc....

I got mine shipped for $325.

If you are getting an '07, I would not buy one considering that have not relaesed one for that year.

Im not so sure about speedo thing... My truck speedo and edge speedo are 3mph off... Which is right?!?! The edge had my tires wrong, so I thought by fixing that it would do it, but still off... hmm...

if you change the tire settings make sure that you corrected the gears you have to adjust both.

The gears were correct... The edge somehow had my stock tire smaller than the 255/70/17

I read where people were squealing tires now etc, is this done with the gear and shifting features ? Are we obligated to run high octane gas ?Can it stop the shut down when the speedo hits 160 clicks ?

Yes the advice on waiting for the 07 is a good idea.

Just a quick pointer. The Edge speedo is correct. The fact that the needle speedo is mechanical it will always vary +/- 3 MPH.

The tire size that is in the Edge when you look at it is just a place holder. It means nothing. I'm not sure why they couldn't make it read what the size actually is but Ford flashed your PCM with the correct tire size and the Edge reads that. If you go into the tire size then it changes it to whatever the place holder value is. Make sense?
Its the same way with the gears. The 'place holder' value is 3.73 but for those with the 3.55s it will read and know that you have 3.55s from the stock tune and if you go in to the gear size even just to look, it will set it to the place holder value (3.73) so if you haven't changed your gears or tire size don't even go into those settings unless you want to change them back to the correct numbers.

Bigmoss, to answer your questions.
It varies on the truck as far as squealing the tires. Mine did it stock but I have a regular cab 5.4 with the 3.73 rear end.
The three stock tunes it comes with premium (91 or higher) is only required for the "performance" tune. There is a "towing" tune that requires only 87 but don't let the name confuse you, it adds a huge amount of performance over stock.
And your last question, yes, you can set the speedlimiter up to 200 MPH if you wish.

Your truck speedo can be off 3 to 4 mph. Also, if you changed the settings with the Edge, it also changed the truck speedo. In other words, it will always be different from the Edge reading by the same amount. I checked mine with a GPS, the Edge was 2 mph faster than the GPS and the truck speedo was 4 mph faster than the GPS.

The Edge is a great tool and I am really enjoying the gauges. I tried running 87 but after running 93, I am spoiled.

Very informative. I would like to know how fast I'm going now since I recently added bigger tires.

Does anyone have pics of their Edge installed/mounted in their truck?

One question I forgot to ask will this unit in any way void the warranty if Ford sees it hooked up ?

Is it easy to install, is there allot of taping into existing harnesses ?

Is this the unit you are all using ?
