Cam Phaser again.

I have developed a knocking sound in the engine in the past week.. maybe two. I can only hear it around 1200-2000 RPM because the exhaust is too loud after that. When I accelerate slowly.

Where is the Cam Phasers located... In the front of the heads?

How long would it take a dealer to fix the cam phaser if it were bad?

My warrenty ran out last week.. so I'm sure I'll get the run around..

Thanks for any help..

Dealer had mine for most of a week but they also replaced lifters and broke off 4 plugs so had to remove/replace heads. Dealer said they heard two different noises at different RPM's. This was the second dealer and they diagnosed it within 10 minutes, ordered parts, and took my truck in two days later. Dealer I bought it from said "no problem" on two occasions. Do a search because somebody posted few pix of the actual removal so you can see where they are and what they look like.

The phasers are bolted on the front of the camshafts in each cylinder head.

If everything goes as planned during teardown and replacement, it usually takes 4-6 hours, maybe a little longer on the passenger's side because the A/C has to be evacuated to get the valve cover off.

And if you've had the phaser replaced in the last year or 12,000 miles, it should still be under warranty. If it's beyond that, your dealer - if they aren't jerks - may work with you to get it covered regardless.
