Interior painted?
Interior painted?
Hey guys..saw this truck awhile back and love how he did the interior. How much work do you think was involved? Has anyone else done this?

it looks like he actually used real auto paint/prep/finish. it still looks a tad on the tacky side altho he at least did it right. the parts he painted is the main dash... gotta rip it all out. just don't use rattle cans
This type of mod is NOT for the faint of heart. To do it properly with lasting effects you need proper adhesion promoters, special paints with flex-additives, and a very long weekend.
My buddy re-painted the entire interior of his Ranger black, looks very stock (and great), but it was an amazingly huge job. Not to mention he is now stuck with having to touch it up from time to time, and he is limited on what cleaners he can use for fear of stripping off the paint.

remember that the painted parts there are all on the solid part of the dash so it requires you take off everything and remove the entire dash. Not too hard, but do it right and dont use high gloss paint, its tacky.
I do a lot of painting for many folks, and I just don't recommend that you use spray bombs. If you want the look and you want it to last you need to use pro paints, when smoothing the textures there is no need for adhesion promotors. In fact it's really not nessessary at all, and since it is pro paints (The same used on the outside of your trucks) it will last just as long if not longer then your exterior. Maintanance? Wax it if you want! that's all I do on mine, in fact the last 5 years that I painted mine I don't think I have waxed it once.

btw i have your thread of how to paint plastic saved and been reading it over and gonna start painting soon
Don't knock the power of the 'spray bombs'.
My entire flow-thru swap was done with cans of Ford interior lacquer. Put a spray can in the right hands and you'll never tell the difference.

As other's have said, I'd avoid the glossy look. My first round of interior paint was a medium gloss, and the glare from the windshield was ridiculas. The latest method I used was a base of the interior lacquer, and a top coat of matte clear. It now matches stock just about perfectly and has little reflection on the windshield.
BTW - My center trim panel was cleared with *gasp*, spray can clear!!
Just my $0.02.

What else can you paint, my dash does not interest me. But my vents do, they have a few scratches and they go for a big price tag on ebay. I have a few custom things I want to do like this, including 1 more cathod tube towards the back of my bed (I am going to use a blacklight reflector I have) to help project it accross the center of the bed. At least that is the plan, I need to figure a way to mount it so it's still attractive, have any ideas? I don't see many entrepeneurs on here as far as custom modding goes but this thread surprised me.
