Is the ESP necessary??
My truck is coming in soon, and i want to get some sort of ESP on the truck... saw a website that quoted me 2470 for a 7yr 100k warranty... in your guys opinion... being a woman... what is the best bang for the buck?? Do i add the 2500 onto the truck and just hope that nothing goes wrong??... or go with the prepaid maintenace plan?? Just wondering... Go easy on me... new truck owner, just want to do things right...
go to www.fordwarrantys.com and give that a shot.
for a 7yr/100k plan they would likely have a $200, or more rebate on top of the already good price. I almost guarantee the price will be 25% better than that.
Take a look and post your results.
At that price, I say don't do it.

Hmm. Not bad. Do they have any specials running right now? Usually they instantly e-mail you a coupon code that tells you how much extra you get off the listed price, and for a warranty of that size I would expect another $200~ off.
Just wanted to make sure you got all the savings you could.
As for the decision on pulling the trigger or not, it comes down to a few basic things. First of all, some people claim you should NEVER buy a warranty. Now, I personally disagree...and here's why.
In the right circumstance, with the right deal, the overall price of the warranty actually comes out to be fairly reasonable when properly broken down with a cost/benefit analysis.
To anaylyze your situation properly I would need to know your vehicle age from purchase, and current mileage...but we can go with a rough estimate. The nice thing about www.FordWarrantys.com is that you can make the plan perfect for YOUR driving habits. What I mean by this is they have quite a bit of flexibility in regards to how you want to cover it in terms of both mileage and years, in various combinations.
So do some math, think of possible changes in driving habits/routes in the future, and try and get the BEST possible plan without risking a loss of coverage a year early for instance.
Now, say you have a truck that is at 30k miles and just shy of 3 years old. For that extended warranty you are getting an extra 70k miles, and 4 years of coverage. Broken down that costs you $432.5 a year, PLUS the $200 per visit. I urge you to re-visit the site and play around a bit with different options...if I am not mistaken, getting the $100 deductible doesn't raise the price enough to justify going with $200 instead in most cases.
At that rate, you would need to basically have either an internal engine failure, or a major transmission issue alone over the course of the 4 years, or... about 2-3 incidents a year...but of course with the hefty deductible you may want to try and hold off and get multiple issues handled at a time.
With those numbers, in that situation...I would almost say this may still not quite pan out.
also, another thing you need to consider is how the truck has been thus far. Anything to indicate it was put together "on a bad day?" Any major issues so far? anything that COULD be the early symptoms of catastrophic failure?
I suggest finding a reputable mechanic through personal references that will be willing to truly evaluate the engine, as well as other components of the drivetrain. If it comes back with no symptoms of issue, I think you may be better off banking the cash and earning a few % a year on it instead.
From what I have read here, unless you have a problem ridden truck, you shouldn't have any major issues until you start pushing 115,000-165,000 miles.
good luck!

Well its hard to tell the miles lol, i ordered the truck two weeks ago from the dealer, should be here in about 6 weeks, so lol the mileage is little to none... well 15 to 20 miles maybe... and i doubt there is anything wrong with it...I got the fx4 because i liked the look of it, and i don't plan to do a whole lot of offroading, unless my little one begs me lol... I'll save the off road trips for my boyfriends h1
... he'll put my truck to shame
so not looking to have the most premo package but i want to be covered... just in case...

OHHHH! you don't have it yet! I *assumed* you meant you were coming up on running out of the factory warranty!
Well, lol, in that case... couple other things to consider.
For starters, you don't HAVE to buy the warranty today. In fact, it's better if you delay it as long as possible. No sense in letting Ford use your cash all that time you have a factory warranty anyway.
Also, since the new trucks come with a 5year/60k powertrain warranty, I honestly wouldn't even consider the warranty. you're covered pretty well on the stuff that can really "hurt" the wallet.
I say don't even worry about it...only reason to even consider it is if the truck gives you hell from day one and the warranty is about to run out, get it then. You can always buy the warranty as long as you are still covered at that time!

that's good news for me... maybe you can help me with another queston... When i ordered my truck (x plan) they said because i wanted black interior that they couldn't generate a price for the truck???????does that mean there is a hike in the price of the interior?? why wouldn't they be able to get a price?? i just gave them 500 bucks for them to say, "well the trucks ordered but we don't have a price to give you" wtf?? i had them sign a paper stating if i didn't like the price they would return my 500 bucks...what do you think i'll walk away with on the new 07 fx4... 35k?? hopefully less...

I would also stay away from ESP plan's other than Ford's. I have heard far too many stories about buying these plans and then the company not honoring them. Best plan is also the PremiumCare. Others of Ford's plans may not cover everything.
That seems pretty crazy to me that that they can't get a price on a truck. I would be very aware and careful. I think they may be trying to take advantage of you. Good job on getting a document on return of your holding money. They have your 500 bucks and when the truck shows up they will give you the price?? If it were me when the truck shows up I would get my money back no matter what the price. If I remember correctly (it's been a few years) you should be able to go to ford's site and enter your x-plan pin and the trucks specs you ordered and get the x-plan price for the truck. I would make sure you do this and double check their price before you commit to the truck further. Make sure they aren't charging extra. Don't let them charge you documention fees and dealer prep fees either.
Good luck

If you wait a while after you buy the truck, Ford will keep emailing you with offers. I bought mine after a year of ownership from Ford and it was only $800 for a 5 yr with a $50.00 deductible. It seems that the longer I waited the lower the proce was. I would not get it from the dealer at the time of purchase, just my 2 cents.

I think you can do that...
Just deny the truck when it comes in, get your money back, go down the street and have them get the truck from the original dealer. I think they may have to trade another vehicle to them for it but if they want to sell you the truck they will do it. If not, just decline the first truck and order from the second dealer if you can wait.

I personally will never buy another warranty from Ford unless it covered everything. I had the basic warranty that covered engine, tranny and all the majors. Basically everything that doesnt go wrong with a truck until after 100K. My emissions(02 sensors, IAC) acted on my old truck (2001) and it covered none of it. They wanted to charge me 600 bucks to change an 02 sensor which I did myself for 45 dollars and 15 minutes worth of work. Ford is rip off when it comes to repairs. My unce bought an extended warranty through another company for his Ranger. I think he paid 900 total for it and it covered 5 yr 100K. Just make sure they are a truthful company and not a rip off.
