Exhaust system sound without the whole system...possible?

I wanted to know if I could get the loud sound of a new exhaust system without buying the whole system. If so how could I do this?

Go to your local muffler shop have the stock one cut out and a new one welded in its place. I think that stock muffler is 31" long so they willl have to add a small section of 2.5" pipe as well. That will be a lot cheaper than buying a cat back system.

I have seen a few guys ditch the stock muffler and put in a Magnaflow or flowmaster in its place

step 1. Remove old exhaust
step 2. buy muffler of your choice
step 3. weld muffler to stock midpipe fab hangar and install
step 4. enjoy

Have a shop cut your factory muffler out, and weld in an aftermarket one, most people on here have gone with magnaflow, I personally like my flowmaster..

I have had both flowmaster and magnaflow... I had the muffler shop "dump" my stock exhaust pipe right after the rear axle. I got the 18" magnaflow on my 4.6L and it sounds deep and throaty when I whale on it, but smooth and relatively quiet on the highway... If I wanted loud, I would have went back with flowmaster 40series!! It's hell getting older...

I bought a 50 series flowmaster si/do muffler and had a muffler shop weld it on... its a nice deep sound,.. quieter than 40 series muffler....sounds beautiful when you get on it... yet virtually no resonance on hwy
fyi the 50 series flowmaster cost me about 90 bucks on ebay ... 150 bucks in labor physically make the dual pipes exit the back with tips.... you can save money by just gettin dumps as mentioned already. I had them dump my pipes on my last truck, labor was free b/c I knew a guy that owned a shop (helps if you know somebody who can weld) but I imagine that it would be bout 80 bucks or so to get dumps welded on.

good luck, Im sure which ever you pick will get you the sound you want

Flowmaster 40

I paid about $110 for a muffler shop to cut out the stock muffler, and weld in a Flowmaster 40. Sounds great!

Will a 50 series single i/o give the same sound as a dual out? I want to keep everything stock as possible but get that deep sound this 5.4 FX4 should have.

I bought a SIDO Flowmaster Super 40 from Summit. Then I took it to my bud who works at a local exhaust shop and he ordered up two mandrel bent tailpipes and some 3.5" SS tips and put it all together for me. Came out to about $300 total and it looks and sounds awesome.
