Miles to empty VS gas in tank

Does anyone else have this problem, My 06 Lariat digital display will tell me low fuel and then will say 30 or so miles to empty, I have tired to drive it all the way down to E but keep getting the low fuel warning while the gauge still shows about a 1/4 tank left.
My fuel tank is 27 gallons and at best the most it has ever taken to fill up is 22 gallons leaving 5 gallons left, what gives, for me that's like another 75 miles in town but the computer says less then 30 miles.
Could my computer be off and need servicing or is this Ford being to conservitive on running out of gas?

I've had mine say zero miles and still have fuel.

The computer is estimating.

You shouldn't let it run too low anyways.

I doubt there is anything Ford can do for you, as you surmised, the system is just being conservative.

I had the exact same problem as you, the first month I owned my truck. The low fuel warning would go off so I would refuel. It would only take 22 -23 gallons. After about a month it started working as designed. Now I go about 26 gallons before the low fuel warning would go off. When I finally refuel, it takes between 27 - 28 gallons.

The more accurate the MPG is the more accurate the estimate is. It probably got more accurate as you drove it.

My guess anyhow

couple of things

First, the grand poobah here at work has graciously given me a Chevy Impala as my company vehicle. Talk about an insult...what was Chevy thinking with this thing. Anyway, I do know that the computer on that car "learns" as you drive. Maybe the gas milage estimate is the same.

Secondly, there is another similar post here: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=251343

Hope this helps.

Have you read your trucks manual? It explains why this happens.
