Has any1 experienced a loud snapping noise when closing the tailgate on their F-150. Just as the gate is almost vertical there is a loud bang from the hinge area like something is stuck. It closes and opens normally....it just makes a loud bang when doing so. Almost sounds like a spring unwinding with a lot of force.

The tailgate is spring loaded but never had a problem. Take it to the dealer and see what they say.

 

Thare is a torsion bar in the tailgate. It has probably slipped out of its holder. Dealer issue if your truck is on warrantee.

 

When i saw this i thought of my neighbor doing his wife in the driveway at night...

If it isnt the bar maybe it is something as simple as the cable hanging on something and then snapping free.

I was leaving a buddies house one night last year (1:30-2am) and just happen to see his nieghbors in the driveway just going to town! Another buddy (lucky little____) also saw the same girl out tanning, with all of what god gave her from everyone to see. So now every time that I drive past the house I always look to see if she is outside tanning, mowing lawn (in a bikini like normal) or anything like that.

But back to the tail gate, go to the dealership. It sounds like your torsion spring is either broke or about to brake.

 

They are a young couple and they go at it where ever they can. One night they took off on my golf cart for an hour.... They both have told me stories on the crazy places they have done it. I have been trying to catch them in the act out there, but i have been unsucessful. My other neighbor said he came home late one night and saw them going at it....
